SOURCE: red glow (from defrost heater?) at bottom of rear panel in freezer
This is from the GE Appliance "Knowledge Database" Web site:
Refrigerator - Explanation Of Red Glow
In
a no frost refrigerator, the defrost timer activates defrost heaters in
the evaporator section (rear of freezer) which heat up and melt the
frost off the evaporator coils. This process lasts for approximately
25-45 minutes and usually happens up to twice a day.
During this time, there will be no running sounds, no fan noise, and you may hear water dripping or sizzling as it hits the
heaters. On side by side models, you may even be able to see an orange glow at the bottom of the freezer.
This is normal.

Replace the defrost heater and defrost thermostat located behind the freezer panel inside the freezer compartment.

Hi
Please check the defrost timer at the back of your refrigerator and also check the defrost thermostat. Defrost thermostat wiring(part #240) could be loose. You'll need to remove the back panel, held in place by 5 screws. Locate the defrost thermostat and disconnect it from the wire connection to another part. Due to the connection requirement, you may need to cut the wires from the original part and splice it with the connector with wires to the new part. After securing the spliced wires and covering in electrical tape, replace the panel and all the screws.
Please do rate this solution and revert for further assistance.
Thanks
