I have a tom tom one v1 and I plug it into the car using the cigarette lighter power cord which the tom tom came with. The problem is that it will work fine for 2 or 3 mins, sometimes even longer and then it will just suddenly go off. I look at the top and the green light is also off. I fiddle with the connector which plugs into the bottom of the tomtom (push it in further most the time, but sometimes push from right to left, back to front etc. The green light then comes back on and I can turn tomtom back on and continue until a further 2 or 3 mins. Its obvious that the battery doesn’t hold a charge, but why is it not getting a consistent charge, is it the power cable or the connector on the tomtom? Not sure if its related but connecting the tomtom to a computer via usb does not work either. any advise would be good.
I have the same problem. The green light will only come on when I pull the pressure on power cord toward myself. I have tried another cord & problem is still the same.I have the same problem. If the problem exists both when you use the vehicle power connector and the usb cable to your computer, then you have to assume that the problem is with the socket on the One. If it's still in warranty, I would send it back to Tom Tom for repair. Contact customer support for repair information.

The Car chargers are generally the defective unit.
I have also faced a similar issue as the spring loaded cigarette lighter was pushing the charger causing it to disconnect.
Check the fuse inside the cigarette lighter adapter that came with your V1. You'll have to pop the top off with the hinge to access a hidden screw (star pattern). Total of 3 screws. Inside you should find a 2 amp mini blade fuse, your V1 should have come with an extra fuse (mine did). I had the same issue, no power, changed the fuse and power cord, powered right up.
No, then tom tom cannot recharge when the car is not on. You need to turn on the car before your tom tom can charge. The battery gets to charge the tom tom when in use. Once the car is turned off the gps will not charge. You can try out a practical by turning off your car and plugging the gps to see if it will work. Or the cigarette lighter, does it work when the car is turned off. Since the cigarette lighter does not turn on when the car is off, then it means it gps cannot charge once the car is turned off.
Hope this information helped you!
Most of the Vector spotlights use a class 2 charger with an output of 12VDC 400ma with a positive (+) center connector, which are very common. I have several of these chargers from different manufacturers, and I use them interchangably on whichever spotlight I happen to plug them into.
One complication with my Vectors is they use a coaxial connector plug on the spotlight end that is a size N, which is being phased out and Radio Shack doesn'd even carry any more. If you hae a box of misc chargers, find a 12VDC one with a connector that fits your 1.5MCP light, and that is probably the one that came with your light.
Note that you can also charge your light with the cigarette lighter adapter cord that came with it. So if you can't find an AC transformer that fits but you have your cigarette lighter adapter cord, you can buy one of those cigarette lighter size gadgets that plugs into an AC outlet, and then plug your cigarette lighter cord into that.
Buy a adapter for your cigarette lighter socket that has multiple sockets with one that will fit the Garmin adapter. I've never heard of a problem you are having?? Are you using a Garmin plug? If not get one.
Does the cigarette lighter work in the car when you press it in? Does it get hot? If not has the fuse blown for the cigarette lighter?
If that is supplying power you may have a fault in the cigarette lighter to Tom Tom lead. Carefully check the fuse (one of the six bumps) in the plug and make sure it is still intact (use a meter).
If the fuse is OK then the lead itself may be faulty and probably needs to be replaced. HTH Peter
Test to see if you are getting +12V at the center contact and connect
meter to an alternate ground point....perhaps the ground wire fell
off?? Otherwise I would see if power lead slipped off rear of lighter
connector.
do you plug it into the cigarette lighter or is it installed (wired) behind the cigarette lighter.
If so and you happen to plug something into the lighter you run the risk of shorting out our friend TomTom (I did it twice)
