I have a new Meade DS-2114ATS-LNT telescope. It will not slew upwards at all. Are there parts I can order to replace the gears or whatever the problem is? Thanks, Mike P.
I'm assuming the motor works fine. First check this link for the instructional video and check you are doing everything right. (you need quicktime to view these - you can download it from the link if you need it ; http://www.meade.com/educational/ds%20videos/qt_chap1.html Here is the link to the Meade warranty page; http://www.meade.com/support/warranties.html If your scope is no longer under warranty, you can get spares here; http://www.meade4m.com/4mshop/parts/ They have fabulous pictures of all the available parts - Check in the "mount parts" section; They show a DS worm gear assembly, and a DS gear and washer set. You can probably see better than me, but it looks as if the worm gear traverses the scope, and the gear and washers in their housing elevate the scope. There may be more than they show parts for. The real trick will be to make sure you know how to reassemble the gears you dismantle - take a photo every time you remove something so you have a record when the replacement parts arrive. It is not the most complicated gear mechanism, but it is reasonably high precision, and relatively cheap materials, so be very careful or get someone fairly gentle and mechanically minded. If you need help, post me some photos back of what you need help with, happy to oblige. Hope this helps:)
If its new and defective I would strongly suggest you contact Meade tech support. They?ll get you fixed up and it should be covered by the warranty. If you need parts Meade?s web site has a store where you can buy them direct. If you don?t see what you need listed call them up and ask. can not find parts
My DS-2114ats sometimes will slew in elevation. I all depends on if I get the right tightness (twist, torque, whatever you wish to call it) on the elevation knob. The Meade Website is mainly product sales-driven. Customer support is mostly instructional videos. I'd like at least a drawing of the drive mechanism!
Inclination slew not working, gears spin on shaft. need parts!!
I have the same problem the connecting rod that holds the gear wheel on the top broke its like an axel anyway I went to meade and they want to sell me a new mount for 160 dollars I didnt pay that for the scope unfortunatly they seem to use **** parts the connecting rod is made of a soft alloy and cannot be repaired everything elce is ok apart from that damm rod
