Have tried needle-nose pliers, WD 40 and wedging out with nails and the like. Nothing works. Do I need to take the carriage apart?

I am assuming that a nail got jammed? If so unplug air to tool, remove the rest of nails and turn it over. try to find a flat piece of steel smaller than the nose where nail goes and gently tap the driver back up and remove jammed nail. If the driver is broken that is a different fix. Hope this helps

I worked at at tool rental center while attending college and learned from the old tool masters about nails and nailers. Rental stores have many different brands of nailers to rent and customers would bring their own nails of all brands. You will notice on the case/box that your nails will /should work on many other brands however the degree or angle of the nails is not always exacly as stated on the box. You should check with protractor the exact angle of your nails and also check the exact angle of the nailer. Use straight edge on travel path of the piston and another on guide rails to check angle of the gun. You will discover that all is not as stated as in a perfect world. If the angle is off slightly, the head of the second nail will get into the path of the driver. This happens mostly with clip head because the nail heads are so close together. The full round head is spaced further apart with less jamming. If angle is off slightly, take a look at other brands of nails with protractor in hand, the angle will be different slightly or choose a slightly thicker nail. Look for the nails to fit with bottom of nail hitting the barrel first. This will move the head of the nail slightly away from the center line. Finally do not release pusher with force as this will jamb nails closer together. Good Luck!?

Lets assume you have oiled the gun. Before you run out and buy an o-ring kit for this, take the gun apart and look for anything that may be jammed inside the gun. This could be dirt, grit or an unfired nail. The gun is very simple inside so don't be afraid to do this yourself. Undo the 4 hex screws holding on the cap at the back of the gun. Put the nose of the gun in a vise or get a friend to hold the gun for you. Grab hold of the cylinder inside the gun and pull it out. Wiggle it around and pull at the same time, it will be tight but it will come out. Totally disassemble the cylinder. If the seals look good take a very close look at the "Bulkhead". It is made of plastic and is prone to get very small hairline cracks in it and this will leak air. Look inside the cylinder and make sure the walls are smooth and not scored. This is all very easy to do. Don't just buy an o-ring kit assuming it will fix the problem. Look for the simple stuff first, it may save you some time and money. AGAIN IF THE O-RINGS LOOK GOOD TAKE A VERY CLOSE LOOK AT THE BULKHEAD AND LOOK FOR CRACKS, IF AIR IS LEAKING FROM THE NOSE THIS SHOULD BE THE FIRST PLACE TO LOOK AND COSTS ABOUT $7.00 TO REPLACE..........

Dewalt uses two vinyl orings against the cylinder spacer seal. Most likely one or both have have failed. These orings are included in the repair kit available thru dewalt service center near you or on the web. If you have a source for orings, like a bearing retailer, you could replace with generic viton orings. Take cylinder and cylinder spacer with you so that you can fit them in. The orings should allow cylinder spacer to fit snuggly and allow the spacer to have about a 1/4 in travel without jamming. If a kit is not available, then only option is to convert to generic orings. Accidentally put new blade in while old fragment was there. 2nd blade broke , now both fragments are in the slot and won't come out.
