Pleas4e help my dryer is working but it won't get hot it just blows cold air please help me fix this problem
There are several items that can cause a dryer not to heat. Here's a list of the most common failed components: 1. Heating Element - take a resistance reading of the coil. Should read a low resistance somewhere around 10 ohms. 2. Thermal Fuse - Should read a short if good. Non-resettable and must be replaced if bad. Usually located near the blower housing. 3. Thermal Cut-Out - Should read a short if good. Non-resettable and must be replaced if bad. Usually located near the heating element. 4. High Limit Thermostat - Normally closed device. Designed to open at 167 degrees F. Protects the heating element. The thermostat will cycle (closed then open) during the drying cycle. This is normal. However, if the thermostat opens prematurely, or stays open, the unit will not heat. (NOTE: If the either the Thermal Cut-Out or Hi-Limit Thermostat are bad, replace them BOTH at the same time.) 5. Operating Thermostat - Usually located on the blower housing. Has four wires connected to it with a normally closed and normally open contact. The thermostat should cycle during while the dryer is running. If the thermostat does not function, it must be replaced. 6. Interconnecting wiring - A broken or loose wire is always a possibility. There's normally a wiring diagram located under the console that you can refer to to assist in tracing wires out. Make sure you unplug the dryer before attempting, however. There are live voltages present even with the dryer turned off. I hope this helps you.
Just fixed a dryer not getting hot..it was the BREAKER IN THE HOUSE.
The dryer runs on two phases...120v plus 120v to make 240. One phase runs all the electronics and tumbler, the other runs the HEATING ELEMENT ONLY. I Measured the volts at the dryer outlet it measured 120. Flipped the breaker off and on and got 240, now the dryer gets hot.
First thing to check if your dryer is not getting hot (but is completely functional otherwise) is the volts at the outlet. Set your meter to ACV and measure your volts.
