It really boils down to what your pain tolerance is like. I'm going to assume that the first few pokes will probably be the worst to handle, but once you grow use to the pokes it's probably not too bad.

These are painless procedures, and you might feel only a slight pricking sensation when the needles are inserted. After the needles are placed, you might have to wait for a period of about 30 minutes to one hour. In some cases a slight pressure may be applied to the needles or a mild electric current may be passed through the needles.

No, the needles are very small, and the acupuncturist puts them in in a way that does not hurt

although, it can be a little uncomfortable if the needles are in your hands or feet, where there isn't much meat

Does acupuncture really work for women trying to get pregnant?

It's hard to give you a definitive answer on that because many women credit acupuncture with their ability to conceive You will hear hundreds of stories from women on both side of the spectrum. Some will tell you that it was an utter waste of time and money and others will show you a baby or two as "evidence." If you are considering shelling out a lot of money on infertility acupuncture I suggest you speak with your doctor first. If your doctor recommends it, go for it.

Why isn't acupunture considered western medicine?

The main difference between western and eastern medicine is that western medicine is scientifically proven to work. Eastern medicine may be said by some to work but does not have the backing of real science. Since acupuncture has not been a proven method for any affliction and is not held to the same standards as scientifically effective methods/medicine, it cannot be considered scientifically sound and is therefore considered Eastern Medicine.
