It just seems stuck, door won't open, i jiggled it and still, just hums and won't play or move
Something must be jammed so a trip to a Technician will resolve that. This is one of the reason I never buy changers of any kind because over the years I have had to fix so many cartridge, platter and other changers that are all designed poorly enough to make the 90 day period but not last too much longer. The Sony ES models are the best but they were big money back then- I have a broken one in my shop now.
This happened to me too, the carousel was stuck and it was definitely one of the bands that was old and stretched out. The solution to it was buying two new bands a bit smaller and replacing them. I can now enjoy my music once again!! :)
This happened to me too. I took the cover off, and the belt closest to the CD loader was off. I put it back on but it was loose fitting instead of tight, but carousel would turn and door would open then. But then it could not load CD, it would load and unload, load and unload CD, but could not load into playing position. Because the loose belt was slipping under weight of lifting CD. Replacing both belts from an eBay seller, fixed both problems for me.

The slider mechanism, depending on the age of the unit and the
manufacturer, consists of the small chrome rail, a drive motor, a small
gear assembly, and (in some units) a small belt that drives the slider
unit via the motor. This small belt causes all sorts of problems. If
the belt is broken or slipping, it can cause skipping, dropouts, or
simply no start up at all. Also, if the belt breaks in the middle of
the disc, the drive mechanism gets hair or dirt wrapped up into the
gears, or the pick-up assembly doesn’t return to the start position
(called home), the unit will (99% of the time) refuse to release the
disc, causing it to become stuck inside the unit. There’s a little
micro or leaf type switch located at home position that sometimes gets
dirty or breaks and, causing this problem also.
If the disc starts
to spin slowly and doesn’t come up to speed, the spindle motor that’s
attached to the turntable platter is a common problem. There could also
be a problem with the spindle motor driver controller IC or the power
supply regulator that supplies voltage to the driver IC. If the disc
starts to spin and then spins really fast, or stops and starts to spin
backwards, your problem is the laser pick-up assembly or the servo
control circuit. If you continue to have problems after cleaning and
checking the other things listed above, you may have a problem with the
player's alignment. Of course, one of the problems you'll face checking
alignments on a DVD/CD player is that you’re going to need to use an
oscilloscope on most of them. If you have the proper tools and
equipment, the first thing to look at is the RF pattern of the unit
while its playing. It should be a sharp and clear pattern. If it's dull
and smeared, then the laser could be weak.
Also, in these units
are very critical alignments called the focus/tracking gains and
offsets. When these alignments are off, it can often cause intermittent
troubles. As the unit ages and parts change value, so do these
alignments, and will need to be checked. In my time as service
technician repairing DVD/CD players, 65% of the laser pick-up assembles
I have tested were good and only needed a small adjustment. Today's
technology makes it unfeasible for a shop to hook up a DVD/CD player,
and even some recorders, to their equipment and make these adjustments
because of the cost involved.
Hope this may help;

SOURCE: a cd has gotten stuck in my Sony 5 cd/dvd carousel
As long as the cd hasn't caused any other damage to the electronics or mechanics of the player, it should be an easy fix. First, open your carousel then unplug the player to avoid shock. Remove the top lid of the player via the screws on the exterior holding it in place. From there, the stuck CD should be right there for you to reach in and remove. Hope this helps!

I got a free one of these from my work...well that is because it was having the same problem and they didn't want to mess with it haha. Sooo...I brought it home..thinking i could just buy a cd cleaner kit and clean the dirty lens..which is what normally causes these problems. To my dismay this didn't work (later found that the lens is a good half inch away from the disc)..so i decided to open the bad boy up (hey I got it for free...no harm crackin it open :-) ) After hitting the lens with a can of air..I tried again...no go. And just so you all know...this player runs vertically..not horizontally. I want to know how does the player read? the lens in stationary. All other players i have seen the lens moves up and down. I'm thinking it might have something to do with that. I gave up on cleaning it and started doing some searches..this was the only forum that was somewhat helpful. I agree with Silverscreen. When i watch the cd's playing the disc wobbles SLIGHTLY up and down. I think the rear stand-alone wheel is a bit too loose. ..The amount it wobbles is hardly noticed but is the only thing i see out of the ordinary.

Hello,
You can have service manual of CDP-CX355 from Manual Zone and Service Manual net
Regarding test and checking of audio out circuit, service manual will help you a lot and let me know do you get distorted sound in digital out or analog out.
If its analog audio out, then IC401, 402 and IC302 on main board are suspected. (see below picture, part of main board)
Need further info / help, let me know to guide you further.
Thank you.

Without turning the unit upside down, look at the bottom of the player. You should see a small round hole toward the front of the unit, with a white plastic part inside with a slot. Take a screwdriver and turn this gear manually with the power off. You should be able to unload the discs by rotating this gear. Be careful not to tilt the unit, as the discs will fall out of the tray, and you'll have to open it to retrieve them.
Once you have the discs out, put in only one disc and see if the unit plays. If you get a disc error, you probably need to clean the lens on the laser. Open the unit, use a cotton swab that has been pre-wetted with glass cleaner to wipe the lens on the laser. Do this gently, don't press down hard on the lens. Use the other end of the swab to dry the lens. Try loading a disc with the top cover off and see if it spins. If it doesn't spin, try turning it by hand. If you can't turn it by hand, the gears have gotten out of alignment.
In this case, use your screwdriver again, noting which way the gear on the bottom of the unit spins when the drawer is going into the unit. Then turn the gear until it "pops" past one or two teeth, and then you should see the laser assembly rise up and meet the clamp assembly on the top of the tray. These are the most common problems with the 5 disc players that Sony made. Many times I could fix them in 30 seconds or less using this procedure.
