I am a teacher and I have a Flip camera purchased in 2010-works great, never had any trouble. My school purchased ten others and they were not used often by others. None of the batteries will charge-I've been told to remove the battery and reinsert but I cannot find a way to open or unlock the compartment and don't want to damage it.

Is it plugged in directly or with a USB extension cable? Some cheaper cables are not sufficient to charge it.

return it for a refund! i bought one, it did the same as yours. i returned it and bought the 2nd one. It did the same as the first one (and the same as yours.)
It is a piece of junk. Supposedly the previous Flips were good, unfortunately, I didn't have the previous models so my experiences only are bad.

Try a different USB port and don't use an extension cable with it either. Make sure the computer you are using is turned ON and stays on during the charging. not sure about the second half of your question, not knowing how to open? and change the battery? If you never opened it to begin with how did you get the rechargeable battery pack into it?? they don't come installed. battery was separate in the packaging on mine. anyhow, there is a little slide button at bottom of camcorder slide the opposite direction, then the whole front of the camcorder slides down and off of the camera. The battery pack goes in. the White plastic that covers both batteries Stays on them do not remove, but if there is a little plastic strip covering the connections remove that. I have the Ultra HD and it also takes regular AA batteries, and you may try that too to see if it will work your camera, if not, maybe something is wrong with the camera.
I am hoping you did not think the rechargeable batteries were already in the camcorder and they got thrown away with the packaging !!!! IF so, then use AA batteries instead. good luck. :)
SOURCE: I've used my flip once.
Hi,
The piece that they are talking about will be all the way inside where the batteries contact...if you are not seeing it, then that is not the problem.
If the camera is not that old, it should still be covered by the manufacturer wrranty and you should not need a receipt for that. I would cantact them directly for a replacement.
