I bought a Kenmore 6.9 cu. ft. chest freezer 18 months ago and it died on me suddently. Green power light blinking fast, but motor/compressor not running. per reviews of this product by other customers, they all have issue with this freezer failing as described. Please give best advice since sears won't help with warranty expired after 1 year.

A chest freezer is a very simple machine. There are no fans or defrost system to cause a problem.
You need to make sure the thermostat is not turning off to soon.
If the compressor is running but it does not cool, then there is a problem with the refrigerant system.
You will want to check around with some local repair services, but about the cheapest you would have it repaired will be around $250. That is if it can be repaired at all. The majority of the refrigerant lines are inside the cabinet and unrepairable.
Post back if you have any questions.

I am having the same problem. How long did it take?
I bought mine second hand and think it may be broken. I plugged it in 8 hours ago. I can hear it running but it's not cold yet.

u either need a new thermostat or your compressor is dead
SOURCE: Outside of chest freezer gets hot
it is normal for outside to get hot. that is where the condensor coils are located. if unit is working don't worry.

This freezer has not been on the market but 2-3 years. It is model 1970.
Thanks for the comment. I noticed there is an industrial size capacitor too as well, but not sure how to test to see if it works or not. When I plug the power in, the green light blinks fasts, compressor does not run, but the freezer feels "warm" inside even when it is cold outside. Where can I locate the ignition and what does it look like? Thanks again for your reply.
It probably is all in one. What is happening, the capacitor is not allowing the power through. Does your compressor get warm or hot to touch. If it does not , then chances are the capacitor is bad. If the compressor is hot, then it is froze up. Then the decision is to replace the comp. plus labor or buy a new one. New ones are 200 bucks at SAMs. If it is the capacitor, you can get out of it with about 100 dollars. Let me know how you do.
Bill, no, the compressor is not hot. I see a white cylindrical cap about 1 inch circ and 3 inches high. So, base on what you say, my conclusion is that it must be the cap/ignition and not the capacitor. Thanks for the wisdom, once again.
