Connected Alesis SR18 with a 9volt supply for 5-10 seconds by mistake, now showing a blue blank screen on start up. How much will this cost me? It isn't under warranty

SOURCE: my alesis sr-16 won't power

Likely the input rectifier and filter in the SR16 has shorted diodes or caps. Should be easy fix for a competent electronics tech.

Connected alesis sr16 with alesis 110v power supply.to 240v mains...........briefly powered up and then nothing. Have I "fried" the adapter or the sr16?

Look carefully at the adaptor and see if it takes any voltage besides 110 (it will say in very tiny print, you will need a magnifying glass). if it does NOT say 220V or 240V then you friend the adaptor. Get another adaptor - most are "dual" voltage meaning they run in the U.S. or overseas.

Also check for "polarity" (which part of your plug is + or - ).

I recently bought two Alesis Quadrasynth Plus Pianos, complete, but not funtioning correctly. One looks relatively new, but has a solid white screen and makes no sound when fired up. The other is visually...

Assuming you've tried rebooting the white screen one? If so, You need to take both to a qualified repair man and get the job done right. If you start swapping parts without knowing what works and what doesn't, you risk screwing up the good parts,

I AM LOOKING FOR A N ALESIS 8 CHANEL MULTIMIXER THAN CAN BE USED WITH 220V

Since this unit uses so little power, I would recommend a small stepdown transformer. A 20 or more Watt one is sufficient. DO NOT use a convertor that is intended for appliances like hair driers.

Here is a link... the smallest would work and costs $8... I don't know how they can make them for that. You might consider getting a bigger one if you get other equipment to run as well.

Finding the special power adapter that uses 220 and is compatible to the Alesis would cost much more.

My Alesis D4 Drum Module shows squares in the Display screen and both the both the Store and Note Chase light come on and stay on. I have tried both a new power supply and pushing both the Voice and Output...

Open the unit and see if it has a battery that holds the settings. Check the voltage... it should be around 3 volts. If less than 2.5 volts replace it.

Verify the INTERNAL regulated power supply as the external you verified with new unit. The external is likely regulated within the D4 and either due to an overload or bad regulator may be below the voltage to run the processor. It is likely 5 volts and anything over 4.85 would be acceptable.

I connected an RC20 to a 16 volt/800milli supply & blew it.

It would be helpful if you told us what type supply you connected to the unit.

These normally run off a 9 volt DC supply. Likely you wiped out the input regulator chip and maybe a diode and capacitor.

It is definetly worth repairing.

If you open it up the damaged parts MAY be obvious. There may be a couple which do not show the damage.

Blank display no functions power ok

Not sure what you mean by "power OK",

If you have checked that the logic circuits are getting a clean 5 volts DC THEN the power is OK. This requires an oscilloscope AND a voltmeter.

USUALLY when a display shows characters like that it means the processor hasn't initialized the display. Most common problem is too low power supply that doesn't permit the processor to come out of reset.

Bad filter caps can cause the 5 volts to dip below 4.6 volts which would be minimum to operate. A voltmeter might still register near 5 volts but a scope will show the voltage dips.

My Alesis Sr-16 will suddenly start playing without being being commanded and it will also stop playing during a performance. Is this common and can it be fixed?

These will USUALLY stop playing if in a song mode that runs so many cycles and terminates.

The random starts CAN be caused if you have a MIDI input cable connected and ANY device sends a rhythm start command or starts sending rhythm clocks to the unit. You can usually disable receiving commands via MIDI and SHOULD do this unless you are actually using MIDI.

Other things would be electrical transients that could trigger the device. MAKE SURE ALL of your equipment that this is connected to is power from the SAME electrical outlet to avoid ground loops which can also damage your equipment as well as cause intermittent operation.

The sr-16 powers up briefly then shuts off, I'm using a new AC adaptor ,music store repairman say it's unrepairable ,it's only 2 years old, what gives?

There has to be a component inside that is faulty. That causes the power supply to quit. If the repairman said it is not able to be repaired it means that the part can't be replaced due to unavailability or the cost. You could try taking it to another repairman at a music store that sells Alesis products if you aren't satisfied with his his answer. SR-16 s are pretty reliable and it takes a lot to damage them to the point where they can't be repaired. If you can't get it repaired locally and you think it can be repaired contact Alesis at http://www.alesis.com/content1024 to find out the closest place to ship it to and get it repaired.
