Sony High Definition Projection TV Standby light flashing nine times, tv will not come on.

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. You need to count the number of blinks between the pause. Most common is 9 blinks. Also- after you press POWER, do you hear a "click" or not? If no click and 9 blinks, you probably have a "zero cross failure" and have two options:

(1) Replace the "G" board (part # A1054157A) or have it repaired (they repair it on eBay for about $40. You ship them the bad board and they either repair and return or ship you a different repaired board) A new board costs about $80- without having to send them your board.

(2) Repair the board yourself- by replacing the two diodes on the "G" Board - (D6301 which is on top- by the small transformer) and (D116 which is an SMT component on the bottom of the board- it takes VERY steady hands and a good solder iron). The parts should cost less than $25 and are available on eBay by searching for "sony a1054157a".

Hi, 5 times blink of standby light shows that TV needs White Balance adjustment. No need to dump it, adjustment is also not so difficult. Let me know if you want to give it a try to guide you.

3 times, Diagnosis: +B overvoltage (OVP). Possible causes: IC501 is faulty (G board), IC5002 is faulty (G board). Symptoms of the problem: TV has entered standby mode. got this off a website that had Sony codes listed.

Service Manual of KDP-57WS655 says if TV standby light blinks 9 times then problem is Zero Corssing Detector and you need to replace diodes, D6116 or D6301 which are open on G Board.

A 9 flash code is defined as a zero cross failure, basically a power supply fault. It is usually caused by the failure of one or two diodes on the G board D6301 or D6116. D6116 is 871908197 and D6301 is 650056721. If you can get them and are handy with a soldering iron, you can probably replace them. Be sure the set is unplugged and use care when installing them, as high voltages exist in the set even after it is unplugged. If this answer is to your liking, please be sure to rate it. Thanks! The flashes are a diagnostic. It should be only one flash pattern, either a 5 or a 10 (there are several other patterns in between as well). Please verify the number of flashes after power on, several times, and post back here, and I will be able to help with the fix. Based on your initial description, it my be the HV distribution.
