Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-E85H won't recognize Comcast Cable box

DMR-E85H Won't recognize my comcast cable box.  The cable box is a Motorola model number DT700/US no compatible code.  Also cannot get TV Guide On Screen to work.  It will not work when the cable is directly connected to the recorder.  I have gone through set-up numerous times and have done the 24 hour thing many times, no luck.  Panasonic had me clear everything from the recorder by pushing the up down buttons at the same time.  They also said they have done an "escalation" to TV Guide and TVGO would contact me, ha.  It's been over a week.  In the meanwhile Comcast suggested a tech come to my home.  That happened and I knew more than him about the problem and he said nothing he could do Comcast doesn't support DVD Recorders.  In messages on the Guide screen there is no longer an id # it was cleared when I type in the numbers 753159852 I get to some sort of list it has 13 pages.  VBI etc. are all 0.  I am at my wits end please help me

That was not a solution. What can I do. If I ditch the cable box I still cannot get the TV Guide on Screen to work. I would like to keep the cable box because I like the extra channels. There has to be a way to get the DVD recorder to recognize the cable box However if that does not work I still want the E85 to download the channels. Please Help

Correction: the Motorola cable box is model #DCT700/US. Panasonic customer service did have me do the whole reset process that you described. I will try it again I guess, but it did not work. It wiped out everything. There has to be a way to find the code for the cable box I was given by comcast and then a way to enter the code.

I had Comcast level 3 tech, panasonic tech and a representative from TV Guide online on a conference call; the only thing that will make it work os for comcast to run a patch that motorola will provide free of charge, once every 24 hour period and the unit will run as designed. Comcast said thanks but no thanks, We offer our own dvr units. End of story.

Try switching all the TV input channels until you find the cable box.

If it still does not work, try contacting Comcast, they will verify by phone that installation is correct.

The E-85 and certain Motorola have trouble communicating. In fact from the Motorola DCT-5100 and newer guide data will not download to the E-85.

Panasonic generic regional code IR sequence

    0082 0015 0089 0004 00F2 0033 0017 0010 0091 0013

You can enter these codes with a PocketPC using TV Remote
Controller and making a CCF file with these codes. Or use a Palm with
Omniremote. Make sure no disc in the player when entering this code.

How do you re-tune the panasonic DMR E85H DVD Recorder. I have done exactly as it says in the manual and still it does not find any channels? Is it digital?

The tuner in the DMR-58H is a NTSC tuner (analog). Unless you have a low power station in your area, you will need a digital-to-analog converter box to record OTA stations. It can record analog cable without a box as well. (Digital cable will require a box.)

The manual for the DMR-E85H is available from Panasonic here: http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMRE85H.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(at least in my area there is only one station broadcasting an analog signal; it is a low-power transmitter and thus wasn't required to upgrade to digital with the rest of the stations.)

I have a Panasonic DVD Video Recorder model DMR-E85H manufactured in 2004. It has worked perfectly for all these years but now won't power up at all. I have checked the only fuse I could find inside...

The power supply board is the problem, one of the most common failure is the 1000uf capacitor "open" located near the power transistor that is heat sinked, value may be higher or lower with one or two caps, the second possibility is the power transistor may be open or shorted.

    Panasonic DMR-E85H

No VCR required - A VCR is a video cassette recorder, which requires a video cassette in order to record source material. A DVD recorder, requires DVD discs and this model in particular has a built in hard drive so you don't even need discs either, unless you plan to share recordings with others. All you need is a 'feed' / 'source' from an external aerial like Cable or Sky etc.
    Does that help?

Panasonic DMR-E85 DVD recorder TV Guide problem

Try unplugging the DMR-E85 power cord. It is important that you unplug it from the back of the recorder, not the wall. Leave it unplugged for 10 or 15 minutes. For good measure disconnect the cable 'in' connection as well. Once both lines are plugged back in it will go through its self-check diagnostics. Leave it alone for awhile (give it time to consider the error of it's ways). If you are lucky, when you turn it back on it will ask you to verify the channel lineup. If this does work, and all the channel info is correct, press 'enter' (lineup 1 highlighted). Good luck! This is an awesome machine, WHEN IT WORKS!
