Question about eMachines Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Tried a f11 factory recovery with unsuccessful loading of win7, error reads, must reinstall win7, but the recovery petition will no longer respond. HELP..

I tried to do a complete (f11) factory recovery of my emachine el1358-ur20p, without success loading the factory install. I get to the "Setup is starting services" window, and then an error box appears stateing that "windows could not complete the installation; to install windows on this computer, restart the installation." Yet, no matter how many attempts I've made to re-enter via (f11); the unit will not allow me to repeat activate the factory install process. I need help with this one, please. aunty2@verizon.net

Make sure your installing the right windows either 32 or 64 bit windows.you can't install a 64 bit system on a 32 bit if it doesn't support it.

Hello, find the BIOS Beep Codes at http://www.amptron.com/html/bios.beepcodes.html and try to find your problem. It is not a software or Monitor problem. It could be RAM or Video Card failure

Hi!
Excellent description of your problem, I am not familiar with sata drives much although I'm using one in this system I've just built, still an ide guy.
Anyway I presume you just want to install Xp and start afresh? as this is a refurbed machine?
I've never come across F11 before and have installed Xp on many systems.
Perhaps the operating system install files are corrupt?
Try removing the hard drive and make sure it is firmly secured in its caddy. Look for clip damage too as I've broken a tag off this Sata lead, replaced as wasn't secure enough for my liking.
When you start do you cold boot with Xp cd in drive press any key to boot from cd and allow Windows to load all necessary files for full installation.
If this is so and you still get the F11 after system re-booting 3 or more times during install I would be either looking a trying another o/s or hopefully not a machine fault?
I trust this is of assistance? please remember to rate my effort!

SOURCE: Windows XP SP2 Repair

Solution: Rename the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 folder to something such as catold to prevent WinXP's Setup program from locating the folder and halting the installation. If you are still in Setup, press SHIFT-F10 to launch a command prompt from within Setup. At the command prompt, type cd\win dows\System32 to open the System32 folder and then type rename CATROOT2 catold, press ENTER, restart the computer, and attempt the upgrade again.

If you cannot reach a command prompt from Setup, reboot the computer from a Win95, Win98, or WinMe startup disk and rename the folder from the command prompt. You can also launch a command prompt by booting from the WinXP installation CD and running the Recovery Console.

How to restore your computer to factorysettings without a disk?
If original andfairly new: While Booting Up.

Dell XP = Ctrl+F11
Dell Vista = F8
EEEPC = Esc
Compaq = F11
HP Desktop Vista = F11
Emachine = F10
Acer = Alt+F10

Every manufacture has or uses different Function Key combinations to do a Factory Default Recovery. Also if it didn't come withdisks there is normally a program in the menus to create your own set of recovery CDs. This must be done before you ever putanything on the recovery partition d:, if you used d: for anything you need toremove what you put there or the recovery will not function.(As soon as yourcomputer is turning on press the F10 key and it will take you to the systemrecovery screen, click on the advanced option and click Destructive recoveryand click next. WARNING: before doing this backup anything on your computer youwant to keep pictures, videos, music etc. This will delete everything that didnot come pre-loaded from the factory, so if you have pictures of Aunt Fae'sClass reunion you should probably back those up if you want to keep them.)

How do i restore my emachines to factory settings without a disc?

How to Reboot an eMachines PC

If you are able to load windows:-

Note:Before performing system recovery try to back up the important data like pictures and files.

Instructions

Step 1

Click the "Start" button on the Windows desktop. Check through the program list and hit the "Recovery Management" option
or
Click the "Start" button on the Windows desktop>>go to All programs>>Emachines>>Emachines Empowering technology>>Click on "Recovery Management/ & follow the onscreen instructions Click on Restore>>select factory default settings>>click on yes to follow the warning instructions

It will take 10 to 15 minutes to compleate the process

If you are unable to load windows

1)Turn off the computer/unplug all the external devices like Printers/Scanners/USB devices/Webcams etc...

The moment when you turn on the computer try to hit F11 on the keyboard>>it will give you the options just follow the onscreen instructions.

If F11 doesn't work try with Alt+F10

How do I factory restore an Emachine w3609?

Hi there.
If there is no option to press F11 as the computer starts then you are going to have to purchase a recovery disk for that machine or purchase a Windows installation disk to fully reset it to factory

Need to reload windows xp on Emachines PC

Yes all you have to do is.........

Turn off the Computer
Turn back on and Press F11 repeatedly when the message "Press F11 to start recovery" is displayed.
The recovery will load and display a menu of options:

Full System Restore (with Backup): This options will move all Hard Disk contents to the "c:\My Backup" directory and install a new copy of Windows. This option preserves your existing data files, however all applications and settings will need to be reinstalled. This option requires 4GB of free Hard Disk space for the new OS.

Alway suggest backing up your data before you do any recovery

Hi,

For doing a system recovery on E-machine you have to press F11 number of times at the very first boot screen then follow the procedure, and it will restore your computer back to the factory settings.
This option is available in new computers only. (2-3 years old)
