Try identifying which caption is from the TV and which is from the cable box by turning the TV Closed Caption on and off while you have to sets of captioning. This will show you which closed caption never turns off.

It can't be. Because, subtitiles are not generated by the TV. It accompany with transmission.

The Comcast boxes let you enter a special menu only when the box is turned off. Just turn off the Comcast box and press the menu button on the remote you will then see a menu for the box where you can turn on and off close captioning

If the captions are turned off on your TV, they have to be coming from your cable box. The TV is just displaying what it's getting. Check your cable box menu and make sure captions are turned off there. Cable boxes, especially on digital systems, can prevent the TV's caption decoder from operating properly. So they need to be able to provide captioning, and I suspect you've turned it on somehow. Comcast should be able to tell you how to turn off captions if you can't figure out the menus.

if the tv is not hd then the control is on your tv.
However if the comcast box is an hd box do the following;
Press cable, then power and then with 2 seconds press the red menu button to get the hidden hd user setup menu. You may have to hit the menu button multiple times to get the menu to stay up on the tv.
Next go down to closed captions which is probably enabled, and hit the left or right arrow key to change it to disabled.
Then press the power button twice to turn the box off and back on.

If the comcast box is hd, then you can control it from the comcast remote. To do this press cable, then power and in 2 seconds press menu to get to the hidden hd setup menu, scroll down to closed captions and set it to enabled or disabled then press power twice to get back to you rtv

Go into the setup menu and turn off closed captioning there, or just restore the factory presets. I believe this model has a menu button on the front of the tv.

I had the same issue... here's what I did.  If power off your cable box, then press the menu button, there's a selection to enable or disable Closed Captioning.  This works for both HD series Motorola boxes Comcast offers, at least in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.  Hope this helps!
