The only part of the dryer that really gets warm is the back. We've checked the duct & lint traps...all clean.

dryer gets hot but not hot enough. Have to run thru several cycles to dry clothes. no blockage in exhaust vent and lint filter is clean.

  • Anonymous Mar 14, 2014

One cycle of drying now does not completely dry clothes. Setting the permanent press and the regular cycle does not dry them completely. I have to use the timed drying to complete. Vent is not restricted.

The vent is totally clear, took the whole machine apart and cleaned every inch of the filter/venting.Tested the heat swich for continuity it was good. Start dryer and vent gets hot but it takes two cycles to dry the clothes. Seven year old Frigidaire dryer.

Did you clean the entire length of the vent ducting? Or, did you only clean the lint trap on the dryer and the exhaust vent outside? If you didn't clean the ducting as well, you may still have a clog somewhere causing your dryer to be "starved" for air. A dryer needs proper air flow to dry properly. One way to check is to turn the dryer on and go outside to the exhaust vent opening. Feel to see if you have sufficient air flow. If the air flow is weak, you have a clog. If not, you may have a high limit thermostat cutting off prematurely, not allowing the heating element to heat long enough. Check your ducting first and let me know if this helps.

Takes several cycles to dry

You may have a clogged air vent, check that the air vent hose is not smashed, if it is not smashed, have your dryer vent cleaned professionally, all the way from where the dryer connects to the wall to where the vent leaves the home,
Recheck the dryer operation, dryer vents should be cleaned every other year for optimum performance

GE Dryer model DDE8509R0MWW is getting warm but not hot, takes forever for clothes to dry :(

Check the ductwork for excess lint, kinks, bird nests (yes) or anything else that would restrict the air flow. There is a lazy man's shortcut for electric dryers ONLY: Disconnect the dryer vent and run a load of damp clothes... if the dryer dries the load in normal time, the duct is clogged or kinked. If it doesn't, it's something wrong inside the dryer.

The most common reason for your problem is the cycling thermostat. This is cheap and relatively easy to fix. GE cycling thermostats require turning OFF the power and removing the front of the dryer. It's located on the blower housing. Two wires, two screws. If you have an ohm meter, a good one will read zero ohms.

The other possibility is the heater element. GE has a dual element. If half of this heater breaks, it takes a long time to dry towels and jeans. Incredibly, GE gets about $200 for these because you can't replace only the heating coil (which was only about $30)... you have to buy the whole unit. This requires removal of the drum. Not impossible for do-it-yourselfers, but it's a challenge for first timers.

Good luck.

Dryer doesn't dry (flame cuts out)

279834 is the part number for the 2 coils ( kit ) which mount on the burner . Only 2 screws hold the coil retainer . One coil is opening ( shorting ) after it gets warm . Replaceing both will solve the problem . Easily replaceable .

It takes at least 2 60 minute cycles to dry clothes. Not even 2 years old yet. Not a new problem has always been this way. What is the deal.

Check the blower fan which is mounted underneath the drum on my DLE2514W front loading LG dryer. I experienced poor drying along with a loud thump at the start of each cycle. At first I thought it was a bad roller but later found that the blower fan had separated from its bracket so it was not turning with each turn of the moter but rather spinning freely.

My dryer takes much longer to dry loads now

Hi!

You need to check the following things to sort out the issue you are facing with--

Improper sorting •Separate heavy items from lightweight items (generally, to dry a well-sorted washer load is a well-sorted dryer load).
Large loads of heavy fabrics •Large, heavy fabrics contain more moisture and take (like beach towels) longer to dry. Separate large, heavy fabrics into smaller loads to speed drying time.
Controls improperly set •Match control settings to the load you are drying.
Lint filter is full •Clean lint filter before every load.
Improper or obstructed ducting •Check installation instructions for proper ducting/venting.
•Make sure ducting is clean, free of kinks and unobstructed.
•Check to see if outside wall damper operates easily.
•Check the Installation Instructions to make sure the dryer venting is correct.
Blown fuses or tripped •Replace fuses or reset circuit breakers. Since most dryers circuit breaker use 2 fuses/breakers, make sure both are operating.
Overloading/combining loads •Do not put more than one washer load in the dryer at a time.
Underloading •If you are drying only one or two items, add a few items to ensure proper tumbling.

Thanks for using FixYa and do rate the solution as Fixya if found helpful.

Thanks
