I had installed Yahoo Messenger 9.0 & when I tried making Free PC to PC Calls, the message I'm getting is "Connecting to Voice Service". After a minute I get a response saying "Unable to place the call" So, I uninstalled Yahoo Messenger 9.0 & installed 7.0 instead & there is no change. On Yahoo messenger 7.0, I see the Call Buton, but it is not highlighted, so can't make a call. My speakers are working just fine. I can hear the ring tone when I checked my Call Setup Assistant. To further test if my speakers were working, I also opened a chat room & I could hear what others were talking

I went thru the call setup procedure and everything went fine. I tried to make a PC to PC call and the other person could not hear me. The other person also used the call setup procedure and tried to call me - I could not hear them either. Our computers ring with we are called, but there is no sound from each other. Please help!

To place a free PC-to-PC call to another Yahoo! Messenger customer, you have a choice of three methods:
Method 1: If you wish to call someone on your Messenger List:
Roll your mouse over the contact's name.
Click the Phone icon that appears to the right of their name, then you'll hear a phone ringing.
When you're done talking, click Hang Up for Yahoo! Messenger 8 and End Call for Yahoo! Messenger 9.
Method 2: Using the "Actions" menu to use "Call Computer":
Click the Actions menu and select Call Computer.
The "Call Computer" dialog box will appear, choose the appropriate tab:
For contacts on your Messenger List, click the My Contacts tab and then select the contact's name.
For someone not on your Messenger List, click the Other Contact tab and then enter the contact'sYahoo! ID.

Make sure that you are not using Yahoo Messenger version 9 as there is a known bug about it. If you got the version 9 installed remove it from your PC & then install the latest version. Check you security software settings especially the Firewall. Some antivirus software could block the usage of messaging programs. Like for example Norton, check on the program controls of the Firewall.

The installation is not complete. try and re-install it again or yahoo messenger 9. Follow the directions that appear to proceed with the installation. Uncheck Make Yahoo! my browser's default search engine Uncheck Make www.yahoo.com your browser's home page Click the Next button Check Yes, I accept the License Agreement terms above, and the Yahoo! Terms of Service. Click the Next button, and proceed according to the instructions. After re-installation and it still not work, check your Hardware device and setting. if is properly working.
Since you cannot make call from PC to PC, you have to check if your PC has microphone. Please also check your device, if it is properly install.Because that along can make you not make call.
And to make it more easy for you. Download messenger 9. Follow this step to download it. You can Follow the directions that appear to proceed with the installation. EVEN THE WHOLE WORLD HAVE THIS PROBLEM .ONLY THE THING YOU CAN DO IS TO MAKE CALLS USING THE OPTION (INVITE TO CONFERENCE)YOU CAN SEE IT IN ACTION MENU IN YAHOO MESSENGER 9.0.YOU WILL BE ABLE TO CHAT AND TALK WITH ALL YOUR FRIENDS AT THE SAME TIME.IT SOMETIMES GIVES MORE CLARITY THAN MAKING A CALL.

Messenger 9 for Vista users and XP users with 9, Mess 9 has many unsolved problems and missing features that messenger 8.1 or 8.0 has. Plus now the updated Windows Firewall will not let Messenger download correctly.And is causing 9 users to have problems now.. The only option that might help is going to the control panel and turning off the firewall to download and install then turning it back on.Then click on windows fire wall, Exceptions tab. make sure messenger is checked,if not listed then add it to the list.then click save.

You need to remove version 9,or present version, 1st to get another version to work. To remove Messenger version Use Unwise located middle of page of Messenger Folder.Make sure Automatic is checked! then continue to uninstall..Or use control panel ,Vista-program features or XP-add/remove this is the 2nd best way. If you just delete the Yahoo file to remove messenger,you will also lose the shared file that contains things needed on other Yahoo sites. Your contacts are stored online But if you want to save your old messages archives,they are saved on your PC in the messenger file you are about to delete.Go here and copy them to a new folder
