Access your router Setup page
Open internet explorer go to http://192.168.1.1 (default) username: admin (default) password: "leave it blank" (default)
Go to Security go to Filter
if you know that Ipaddress of the computer you want to block for example 192.168.1.10
You can create up to five different IP Address Range filters   Users who have  filtered  IP addresses will not be able  to  access the  Internet at all   If you only want to filter one  IP  address instead of a range of IP addresses, enter the same  value into both fields  For instance, if you wish to filter the  PC with  the  IP  address of 192 168 1 5, enter 5  into both  fields on one line: 192 168 1 5 ~ 192 168 1 5

if you know the MAC address of the computer click the Edit MAC Filter Setting and input the MAC address you want to block.
blocking by MAC address is the most effective solution to block a computer... while blocking by ip address will be easily bypass by changing the ip add of the pc

then saved your settings and reboot..

I have a WRT54G router and want to daisy chain a Linksys BEFSR41 switch off it, but I seem to be doing it wrong...

Not sure if you just want to expand the amont of computer you can connect to it or the wireless range but I would setup the BEFSR41:
  • Disable DHCP
  • Set an address out of the DHCP scope of the WRT54G
  • Connect them LAN to LAN if not use xover to connect them

Are you trying to install the router.
You can do it manually without the CD.

First reset the router for 30 seconds. unplug the power to the router. wait for 5 seconds. Plug it back in.

Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem
Then you need to connect the computer to the router ad the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

Cannot get on to the lynksys cisco page setup, using the http://192.168.1.1/. numbers, page keeps coming up unavailable. I am using a wireless router.

Hi,

Check that the computer you are trying to connect to the router with is associated with the appropriate WLAN and has a valid IP address from the router.

Start up a command session and type ipconfig -a. The address shown should be something like 192.168.1.n (Where "n" is the number given by DHCP, probably 2). If your PC does not have an address like this it is not connected to the WLAN correctly.

Cheers,
Ripface.

Laptops stopped connecting wireless

how about to reset your router and setup it the proper address by your internet provider..
laptops only connect to the router automatically if you enable it reconnect and detect its network without manually connect internet, this procedure can see in your wireless properties by enabling it.
And also ask your internet provider if theres a problem also with their internet connection.
Good luck!

turn it off for about 5 to 10 seconds, turn it back on and should resolve the issue assuming wi fi was set up correctly.

If that does not work then re configure it and try it on a different channel

Lynksys is causing high blood pressure

Hello cyndilynn

OK, my friend, don't fret. Let's find out what the skinny is. First things first...

(01) Do you have the manual for your router?
If not, you can download it from HERE.

(02) Do I understand you correctly that you are able to connect to the Internet from one of your computers and not the other WHILE using the Linksys BEFSR41 router?

Some points to clarify:
(A) Your Linksys router (connected between your cable or DSL modem and your computer(s)) and your Linksys NIC (installed in your computer) are two different animals that serve different purposes.

(B) Your router should be connected to each of your computers via "straight through" (not "cross-over") Ethernet patch cables that run from the LAN ports at the back of your router to a NIC connection on each of your computers.

(C) The NIC and the ROUTER do not have to be made by the same manufacturer (in this case Linksys). Manufacturer's NICs and ROUTERs can be mixed and matched just fine.

I suspect the issue is w/ detection of your NIC on one of your computers. I doubt the issue has anything to do w/ your router.

If that is the case, please, provide details about the two desktop computers that you have tried the Linksys NIC in (one successfully, one unsuccessfully).

(03) What operating system is each computer running?

(04) Has the computer that you have been unsuccessfull connecting to the Internet through the Linksys router ever been successfully connected to the Internet?

For now, please, answer these 4 questions and provide any other information you can think of (the more details the better). Then we'll move on to the next step.

Thank you
BJ

NAT

First, you need to get into the user interface for the router.  To do that, just open your web browser, type in 198.168.1.1 & hit enter.  A login prompt will pop up if you're able to access the router.

If you've never done this before, the username is blank & the password is admin

What, exactly do you want to do with the NAT firewall?

To enable/disable NAT: click on setup, then click on advanced routing.

To filter Internet NAT redirection: click on security, then click on filters.

You can find this information in the User guide provided by LinkSys at:

http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&cid=1166859876500&displaypage=download

Select your version number, then click on User Guide when it comes up.  User guides & Interfaces for the BEFSR41 are almost identical on every version.
