I don't know what zoumis is trying to say, it looks like he has a problem not a solution.. anyways..
he's my shot:
your problem could be either 2 things.. your monitor has gone bad or your video card has gone bad or may need drivers. I would try to rule out the first one. for that I'm afraid you need to test the computer with another monitor, get another known working monitor from a friend and plug it to your computer and test. if the problem is resolved there's no point on trying to fix your monitor, just get a new one.
if the problem persists, try to find out if you have a video driver problem. the first thing you need to do is go online to the motherboard/pc/video card's manufacturer website and find if there are new driver or updated driver's for your video card/ motherboard's video controller (display), download the drivers into a thumb drive.
next on the computer where you have the problem, restart and go into safe mode ( before the windows logo appears and after post is completed keep pressing f8, you will get a screen in which you need to select safemode.) once you log into safemode plug your thumb drive and install the new updated driver. you're going to be asked to restart. do so, hopefully that will correct the situation. if it doesnt you video controller is simply not working, replace accordingly.
good luck!

With the tv on some channel (and sound working), take a strong flashlight or other light and bring it up to the screen. Do you see a faint picture? Sounds like the backlight has failed. Could be the power supply for it or the inverter board or one of the lamps. Are you qualified to open the unit and look around? Do you have a voltmeter?
