Can a dynex DX-ESW5 act as a print server?

Want to print from an old Mac G4 OS 9, to an HP 4050n printer. I used to have a Linksys hardwired router (BEFSR41) that allowed the 2 to communicate, but failed. I would like to have HARDWIRED communication only between these 2 items, the Mac and printer (so no need to connect to the internet). I have been told in my situation that I need a "hub/switch/print server." Will a Dynex DX-ESW5 ethernet switch be an acceptable device to accomplish this?

No. You need a router to set / obtain an IP or connect it directly to the computer RS232 serial port. No network required, but is old school and may be difficult. Specially with MAC. You are better off getting a new router.

Have Mac OS9 G4 (from 1999) and want to link to HP 4050N ethernet printer, what are Mac friendly hubs for this? Would a DE-809TC D-Link hub work?

Yes, but regardless of connection type the computer still needs the printer drivers. You may want to setup printer via USB to establish that it works. Then you still need a router or smart switch that will assign an IP address and or DNS name. This is a simple hub and will not work without an DHCP server (on router).

Five computers networked with Linksys WRT320N router. Operating systems: Win 7.0 on 3 computers (two hardwired)(one laptop - wireless), Snow Leopard 10.8 on 1 (wireless), and XP on one (wireless). Also...

Sometimes this problem occures when you install a later model wireless router.
Try installing the latest Wireless card driver on the XP computer and the LAN card drivers on the other computers except the MAC.

Printer not working from new router

First, I would suspect your PC has the printer installed using the IP address of the printer. I would uninstall the printer, then go to "add printer" then "add network printer" and see if this works. If not: HP has a neat setup available for their printers. Go to their website and look for network printer setup. This will install on your computer, and go through your network and find your printer.

Cannot use more than 1 computer with my 5 port router

Start with buying a router. The Dx-ESW5 is a 5-port switch, not a router. http://dynexproducts.com/t-faqs_dx_esw5.aspx

You could make it work, but you'd have to assign IP addresses to each of the machines connected to the Internet. For security and a number of other reasons, it's quicker and easier to just grab a router on sale at your local office supply place for $30 bucks or so.

Using laptop and pc on this router

You SHOULD NOT post your personal details here...

The dx esw5 is not a router, it is a switch so it cannot assign an IP to the second PC.

dx esw manual HERE

Which ever PC is turned on first will get an IP assigned by the modem and the other will not.

My guess is that the service provider for your internet only allows 1 IP to be assigned by the modem.

What model is the modem

I think you need a router to share the internet between 2 PC's
