Hello zinnas - If your refrigerator has completely stop making ice, try checking the following:

· It may be turned off. Look for the wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If the wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. If so, try one of these: If your ice maker has a small red plastic lever, lower it to lower the wire. If there's no plastic lever, simply lower the wire. In either case, the ice maker should begin producing ice again.

· Also make sure that the temperature is 8 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. If the freezer is too warm, the ice maker won't cycle properly.

· When was the last time the filter was changed? Most side-by-side filters are recommended to be change approximately every 6-9 months depending on your water usage and frequency. The ice maker fill tube may be blocked with ice or have a clogged water filter. If so, melt the blockage using a hair dryer-but be careful to not melt any plastic parts!

· Also replace the water shut-off valve or water-inlet valve, or both, if necessary. The ice maker head assembly may have broken parts. Look to see if the gears are broken. Check to see if the small plastic arms that rest against the ice rake are broken. If the ice maker head assembly is modular and you've found broken parts, you can just replace it.

If any of these suggestions prove to be infective, connect with a professional to accurately pinpoint any potentially more serious issues.

SOURCE: Ice maker not dumping ice

Make sure the freezer is at least 17 degrees or colder (colder is better). If you have a square cover on the end of the ice maker see if you can pull it off and press on the gear face (don't turn just press). That may clean the electrical contact springs and get it working again. Basically if ya got water, 17 degrees or colder you will get ice. Other than that the ice maker motor module is likely bad (broken gear, etc.). Pretty common.

SOURCE: frigidaire not dumping the ice

Hi: Dumping the ice is the start of the ice making timer. Before you replace the ice maker... Set the freezer one setting colder. The ice maker wont make ice if the freezer is not at zero degrees F. Just because things are frozen in it dosn't mean it is at zero. This happens a lot in the summertime. After resetting the temp don't open the door every hour to see if it makes ice as you will just dump the cold air out. Listen for the ice to dump, give it 24hrs. I hope this helps, Jeff

SOURCE: frigidaire side-by-side ice maker hose froze up

I've seen three solutions to this but havn't tried them yet. One was to gently turn the tube counter clock wise to separate it from the refrigerator and then clear the ice form the end of it another was to use a hair dryer to thaw it out and the third was to wrap warm washrags around it to thaw it out.

SOURCE: Frigidaire ice maker not working

Hi,
The first step you need to do is to turn the water off to the refrigerator so it quits making until you get it fixed.
If your fridge has the control boards in each side of the freezer cabinet that controls the icemaker, then you have a failed board. If you have a standard icemaker with the metal shutoff arm then you have a failed motor module in the icemaker. You can remove the icemaker and unplug the wiring connector from it so you can leave the water on to the dispenser.

SOURCE: Ice Maker inlet tube freezes up.

Try runnning a manual test of the defrost cycle, could be that you are not getting enough airflow to the frig side, while the frig side is calling for more cold. Becuase the frig side is calling for more cold, and not able to get there it is causing more airflow across the water tube.???

HI, I have a KSRL25FRSS00 side by side. The icemaker fills with water and freezes, but doesn't dump the ice cubes. I've used a hair dryer on it to melt the ice a little and have got it to dump the...

There is a heater in the ice tray that is supposed to thaw the cubes a little bit so they don't stick to the edge of the tray. When the heater does not work the ice sticks and the motor wont dump them out. You can see more info and comments and how to here: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/repair-help/kitchenaid-refrigerator-ksrl25frss00-repair/ksrl25frss00-ice-maker-wont-dispense-ice.html

Ice maker no longer makes ice; water still comes for the filered water outlet but there appears to be no water going to the ice maker;

THE WATER VALVE IN THE BACK IS A TWO PART SYSTEM. EVEN THOUGH YOU GET WATER FROM THE DOOR THE ICE MAKER SIDE OF THE VALVE COULD BE BAD. CHANGE VALVE. B4 YOU SPEND THAT KINDA MONEY--DO A SELF CHECK FIRST--POUR WATER IN THE ICE CUBE TRAY. IF IT FREEZES AND DUMPS THEN CHANGE THEWATER VALVE. IF IT FREEZES BUT DONT DUMP CHANGE THE ICE MAKER.

My Maytag Plus refrigerator was stored for 3 years in a climate controlled storage. I moved it a couple of weeks ago and ran it for a week or so without hooking up the water line, and it was working great....

If that is the model number above your post let me know or if different. Most times the dual water control valve sticks or or may need to replace. Place water in the trays and if it freezes cycles and dumps the ice maker is OK but the ice maker during is last few seconds of cycle tells the valve to open. Try that first and I will find you a service manual and part numbers. Sea Breeze

Whirlpool Side by Side Bad Water Taste

Hi,

Most "new" fridges with water dispensers and ice instruct the consumer in there manuals to "bleed" the reservoir by running a couple of large pictures of water thru it. I usually recommend dumping the first few harvest's of ice as well (I believe this is also mentioned in most manuals too). once that is done the water should be fine as any contaminants in the system/reservoir should be gone. you may try changing the filter after this, but it shouldn't be necessary. most ice makers do not have there supply water travel thru the water dispenser reservoir however. the water filling the ice tray should have no baring on the water you dispense into a glass to consume.

hope that helps.

good luck

Ice maker just stopped making ice.

Hi: The ice maker requires Zero degrees F to make ice. This is just so it wont dump water or make a big block of ice in the back. Not just frozen. Ice cream should be rock hard. Before you call a tech try setting the freezer colder. Give it 24 hrs. to stabilize in temperature. Don't do what everybody does and open the fridge to see if it made ice every hour. You will just dump the cold air out and delay the process. You can always listen for the ice to dump into the tray. I hope this helps, Jeff
