You didn't specify the make and model of your camera, so I'm going to assume it uses SD and/or SDHC cards. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If this doesn't do it, try another card.

It's the memory card or SD card you have in the camera. (it sounds like)
Try taking the SD card out and if you look at it closely there is a little switch/ thing you can slide. Slide it to the other side, put it back in your camera and try again. Hope that helps
on most memory cards, there's a switch that prevents writing to the card. It's on the left edge. Make sure it's "up" (toward the connectors) and not down.
if that doesn't help, try a different memory card. If it still happens, then we know the problem exists with the camera and not the card.
