Some water backs up in the softener dispenser??

There is always water in the dispenser when the load is done, even when I don't use softener.

I have this same problem - need assistance figuring it out!

  • Anonymous Feb 15, 2009

I have the same prob. But is not all the time. Seems the way water gets into the softener dispenser is to have both cold water lines(you can see this if you take the cover off)run at the same time. I think one of two things is happening here. Either there is an odd amount of water that enters the tub during the rinse cycle that dispenses the softener and does not fill the softener dispenser high enough to empty it or there may be over time a waring out of the plastic channel that guides the water into the dispenser. Since my machine is under warranty I will have them check it out and report back.

Service was here today and tilted the machine backward about 2-4 degrees. This solved the problem. Now fabric dispenser fully empties. Since the machine is 2.5 year old it is possible that over time it settled. I think though it is more likely the cold water dual inlet solenoid that is a bit constricted. If this fix does not last I will change it.

Fabric softener is still in dispenser after wash

Check for clogged water nozzles in the dispenser. Also, it's advisable to check for a gummed up softener dispenser--softener has a nasty habit of drying out and leaving a thick waxy paste on everything. Check the dispenser where you put in the softener--I recommend CUTTING THE SOFTENER 50/50 WITH HOT WATER to keep it very fluid. Softener causes lint! Be a scrooge when it comes to adding softener--enough to make the clothes smell nice and be soft--BUT THAT'S IT!! On rare occasions, one of the electric inlet water valves might be malfunctioning and not letting water flow to the softener dispenser.
NOTE TO EVERYONE!!!==>ON ALL *HE* WASHERS, NO MORE THAN 2 TABLESPOONS OF LIQUID DETERGENT IN ANY LOAD, IT'S PLENTY!! You're only using 1/3 of the water the old style washers used to use. As for softener, use only enough to get the job done--and always cut it with hot water, especially in the winter.

Frigidaire washing machine fabric softner will not dispense out

Hello - There are several things that could cause the fabric softener to not dispense into the washer. Are you sure the liquid in the dispenser after the wash is fabric softener? If it is fabric softener, the solenoid that lets the water into the dispenser is not working. This solenoid is located on the back of the dispenser. It only gets voltage during the dispense time and fills the fabric softener dispenser with water. The fabric softener dispenser fills while the washer is filling for the rinse cycle.

When the washer begins to fill for the rinse cycle, the fabric softener solenoid is energized and water flows into the fabric softener dispenser cup. When the cup is full the water siphons out and softener and water flow into the tub.

If the liquid in the fabric softener dispenser is pure softener you may need a technician to diagnose and repair the problem. The voltage will have to be tested to the softener solenoid and a volt meter is required.

If the liquid in the fabric softener dispenser is water you probably need to clean the dispenser cup. **** will build up in the siphon tube and stop the liquid from going into the washer tub. The incoming water will dilute the softener and overflow the dispenser cup and run into the tub. The instructions for cleaning the dispenser should be located on page 43 of the use and care guide that came with the washer.

If you don't have the use and care guide these instructions will help. Open the dispenser until it stops. In the left rear corner of the dispenser, there is a release that is labeled push. Press down on the push area and you can slide the dispenser drawer out.

Remove the insert from the bleach and fabric softener compartments. Clean the bottom of the insert and the bleach and fabric softener compartments. Reinstall the insert and put the drawer back inside the washer.

To test the siphon action slowly pour water into the fabric softener compartment. When the water level goes above the maximum line stop pouring. The water should all drain out.

Hope this information proves to be helpful however if it is ineffective please contact a professional to move forward accurately.

Water left in fabric dispenser after load

Hi,

The dispensers work by the siphon principle. You load the softener and at the proper time, the machine diverts water to the softener cup raising the level. In the softener cup, there is a tube loosely covered with a cap. When the level in the softener cup is raised high enough, a siphon effect is started and the softener is pulled from the cup into the washer. This will continue until the water quits flowing and air gets under tha cap, breaking the siphon. The amount of water remaining in the cup is dependent on the level of the cap, and the amount of residual water remaining in the dispenser fill tube once the siphon effect is broken. You can see this effect for yourself: take a measuring cup and slowly pour water into the softener cup, raising the level above the max line. When the level gets high enough, the contents of the cup will dispense. You can remove the cover cap that is a part of the dispenser and clean it; it will help. Removing the entire tray and cleaning all of the tubes and the cap assembly will also help. The only other thing that can be done is to change the dispensing supply valve, as it sounds like there may be some leak by after the fabric softener is dispensed. Having residual water isn't really hurting anything. It's only water, and the machine has dispensed the softener! Try the cleaning part first as this usually corrects the issue, and then the repair technician if it still bothers you. For as much as the extnded warranty costs, you should be completely satisfied with your machine.
Best regards, --W/D--

Fabric softener dispenser not working

If the model number you have this listed under is correct, you should have the softener dispenser on the center post of the agitator. If this is the case, you need to remove it by popping it off the center post and take it apart. Soak it in some hot water to dissolve the softener residue and reassemble. Most dispenser related problems are attributed to softener that hardens and clogs up the dispenser. Liquid softener is essentially a wax and will do this over time. You will need to clean it from time to time.

Fabric softener does not completely was out of dispenser

I have well water but this could apply to all supplies. There is a screen on the inlet line at the back of the hose. It collects debris and over time it will reduce flow. I have had the alarm (I don't remember the code) that tells me I have poor water flow. Prior to this the fabric softener tray will start to get "messy" and not flush clean. It seems to be a problem of reduced flow but not enough to set the alarm. It is a simple check. Shut off the water to the machine, remove the hoses from the back of the machine, I do one at a time so I do not cross them and inspect and clear the inlet screen as necessary. A simple check. Hope this helps
