Old Curtis CMC13003 will not display DVD picture

what inputs does the old Daewood / VCR combo use is it RCA and Video cable on an AV input? How many Av inputs are there in TV ? Does the DVD player have AV out audio out (Yellow) RCA (Red and White). If you do not have enough AV inputs on the Tv use an AV switch box . and Switch two AV RCA inputs /DVD and VCR and into one output to the TV. You may be able to feed the AV out RCA out into the VCR AV in and switch the input on the VCR.

Assuming you used the standard YELLOW-WHITE-RED RCA cable, between the unit and the TV, the colours of each of the plugs should match both the outputs on the rear of the unit and the respective inputs at the rear of the TV. The TV must also be on an AV input 'channel' to receive the connected unit. (for example, AV1 or VIDEO 1)

Try changing the RCA cables - just in case the ones you currently have are defective in some way.

Being a combo unit, there should be a DVD-VCR common output on the rear - using RCA cable, the YELLOW is video, the WHITE is left channel, the RED is right - these MUST match the input on the TV, and the TV AV input must be selected in order to view the pictures and audio from the unit. To enjoy both VCR and DVD, using the RCA connection, the common output on the rear of the combo unit is recommended.

Better quality video is possible using S-Video cable (available from electronics stores such as Radio Shack etc. but this does not provide audio; you would still require RCA RED-WHITE cable for that, and your TV may not have S-Video input). Your TV may have a TV/AV button on the front - select the correct AV 'channel' with that if necessary.

It makes sense to check everything twice before assuming anything is broken.

• Are you using an AV cord between your VCR and TV or a standard coax? If you are using a standard coax then first make sure the tape is functioning properly. Next try a new coax and if the problem persist there might be an issue with the coax output/input on the VCR or TV itself.

• If you are using the AV inputs (red,white and yellow) you want to remember that the red and white are for audio and the yellow is for video. So in this case you want to

1. Make sure the tape is functioning correct. Old tapes that have seen their better days will produce audio but no video and vice versa.
2. Check the connection of your yellow AV input (audio). Make sure it goes from the same output on your VCR to the same input on your TV as the audio cords are running to.
3. If this checks out then try a different audio cord and see if this fixes it.
4. If not then try using a different output on the VCR and input on the TV all together.
5. At this point it is possible one of the AV audio jacks are bad either on the VCR or on the TV.

I'm responding here in order to make sure your problem is solved.

LAST QUESTION THIS IS A DVD/VHS DUAL UNIT AND IS CON NECTED WITH THE wHIT rED AND YELLOW TO FROM THE COMPONENT AREA TO THE BACK OF THE TV

You can do the connection by using two different methods: (a.) you can use the component method or (b.) you can use the AV method.

Using the Component method: The component is a combination of red, green and blue wire connection which brings video or display.This three must be connected for you to have a display of your unit on your TV.

Connect the Red, Blue and Green wires respectively to their appropriate places on the TV, then the other part on your DVD/VCR. Note that this connection will only bring a display and no audio. You will have to connect the red and white wire from audio out of the DVD to audio in on the TV.

Once you have successfully done the connection, put on the DVD/VCR and your TV, then press "source" on your TV remote and select component 1 or 2 for you to get a display.

B. Using the AV connection: The Av connection is using the RCA wires which is yellow white and red, just as we discussed while chatting. Connect the Yellow, white and red wires, from the TV to the DVD/VCR, the select AV on the TV remote.

Unlike the Component which its video connection is red, green and blue for display, the AV is only Yellow for display. I hope you under stand this.

Connecting this up will be easy. What you do is get a yourself a set of the right, for your setup, cables. That uses EITHER one of the formats, of these described, below. You will need, either, a THREE way Cable, or three separate " Coaxial Cored" Cables with RCA PLUGS on them. ColoredYellow, (Video) Red, & White. (Audio) AV. OR If you have SCARTConnection Sockets, it's a big Black Socket at rear of unit(s), you get aSCART Cable.& It's all inside. Now some units, use a standard calledComponent Video, that uses, a Green, Red, & Blue Plugs. Now, with the Component setup, you will also ,need, Two more Cables, for the AV Audio. these are, Red & White.(So with Component Video there are 5 Cables/Plugs in all). In any event ALL Cables go Color to Color, at each end, plugging into the corresponding Colored RCA Jacks, on either machine, or VCR or TV. Now if you have SCART, then it simply plugs in only one way. It is that simple. So connect up with the leads your set uses, and select the correct "Input" from TV/Remote, it is NOT on a "Channel" it will be on AV, AUX, and Press "Play" on VCR/DVD whatever.... should be all go.

This TV doesn't have an AV input, so there are no input jacks other than the antenna connector. If you want to connect a device that has only AV outputs (your red, white and yellow plug) you will need an RF converter. This will take the AV signals and convert them to a channel 3 or 4 signal you can tune in on the set.

But since you don't seem interested in spending any money, you'll probably not like to hear that the converter runs around $15 most places. Take heart, there is an alternative. Find a VCR (if you don't have one already) that has an RF output. Many of the the newer DVD/VCR combos only have AV outputs. You're looking for one that has an "out to TV" threaded connector on the back. These units already have an RF converter built in. Connect your AV plugs to the line in jacks on the VCR and switch to that input, and you can use your video game or DVD player through the VCR.

Try to use AV cables they work better than RF cables in my opinion. AV out to TV in works everytime.

The RF converter takes the Red/White/Yellow as INPUTS and converts them to either channel 3 or 4. You need to go the other way. You need a tuner or another VCR to convert from RF (channel 3 or 4) to a standard AV signal (Red/White/Yel).
