No Ethernet controller on Optiplex XP Pro SP3

Dell Optiplex GX280 Desktop, have just installed Win XP Pro SP3 (unbranded OEM).
System hardware shows Ethernet Controller (under Generic Hardware Devices) as drivers not installed.
No Network Controller, so cannot collect drivers on line.
Tried System Repair, tried wiping disk and reinstalling several times, no result.
These items are on the PCI bus (shown as Working Properly) along with Multi Media Audio Controller, Video Controller, and Video Controller (VGA Compatible. These items also showing as drivers not installed.
Advice please.
Many thanks.

Haven't tried yet. Thanks and will let you know. Brian Mitchell.

    Thanks Eric.

I suddenly realise that because it was an unbranded OEM CD, no drivers were on the CD. I imagine particular drivers are on CDs per machine brand. I should have obtained a Dell branded OEM CD, which would presumable have installed the drivers for the Ethernet controller on that particular Dell computer.

Anyway it shows up now thanks. Not I can get the other missing drivers on line.

Thanks again from Brian Mitchell in UK.

I need the mulimedia audio controler for dell optiplex sx280 running windows 7

There is no specific driver for your Dell for Win 7. I suggest you to use the windows xp drivers (in case you don't have, download them from this link). Before run the installation file right click on it, choose properties and at the compatibility tab check Windows XP sp3 compatibility and hit apply - ok. Install the drivers as usual.

Installed new version of windows xp pro. does not recognize the ethernet port. not on hardware list

Go to http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen and enter in the service tag number. It will then list the drivers off, select and download the ethernet driver. The install program will put the drivers back on the machine and ask you to reboot.

Unmountable boot volume or do I need another hard drive ?

Start machine press F8 repeatedly
If it lets you into Safe Mode then go to Programs, Accesories, System Tools, System Restore and try to roll the machine back a week or so
If that does not work you need to find a buddy with a copy of the software and reinstall providing your machine has the Windows sticker on the back or sides giving you the key code
