Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE
The leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE make sure they have secure dust free connections and are not faulty. Any bad or faulty power or data lead or connection can cause a computer not boot up.
Motherboard and a Hard Drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail.

If that machine has Internet access, try using Windows Update. You could also try Dell's site.

SOURCE: selected boot device is not available

I had the same issue with my dell dimension 2400. The issue I was having resulted in the connection to the drive was loose. Try taking off the side of the case, find the drives in question and reseating the plugins. My pc was quite a bit older though and i don't know if this will be your solution, but its worth a shot. You can even try installing a different cable and swapping to another power supply plug.

SOURCE: Dell Optiplex GX270 will not boot from disk

The reason why Windows install/setup is not continuing is it is trying to detect the hard drive.
You might have a faulty disk or the MBR (Master Boor Record) on the hard disk is corrupted or virus infected.
When you go into the BIOS configuration, does the BIOS detect the hard drive? If so this is a good sign. If not the hard disk is probably faulty and needs to be replaced.
Next boot up with a DOS floppy boot disk and the run fdisk /mbr
This will fix the MBR.
Next run fdisk again and delete all the partitions on the hard drive.
You do not need to create a new partition with this DOS disk, this will be done with the Windows XP install.
Reboot the computer and now install Windows XP. create a new partition and format it in NTFS (do not do a quick format).

Hi my Dell OptiPlex GX270 turns on but when it comes on it freezes but i cant be sure its frozen because my mouse and keyboard wont connect I orginally bought a wireless mouse and keyboard and it wouldnt...

Hello,
First off, try going to BIOS. Usually you have to tap either F2 or Delete on dell computers while booting up to enter BIOS. If you're successful, and you're in BIOS, observe for a few minutes if it will freeze while in BIOS. If it doesn't then you might need to reinstall windows. If it freezes in BIOS as well, then there's a hardware malfunction/problem. That will be the time to have a technician check the hardware on your desktop.

I have a dell optiplex gx270 with an internal LG GH22LP20 super multi dvd writer installed. The system does not recognize the device at all. Can you help?

Make sure the drive is jumpered to cable select (CS) and using the original Dell Data cable. Re-seat both power and data cable connections.
boot to the BIOS (F2 at boot)
turn on caps lock, scroll lock and numlock on the keyboard
Press ALT + E (should beep once) Press ALT + F (should Beep Once) Press ALT + B system will reboot and re-detect IDE drives

Last six i didn't use my dell gx270 now i forget its bios password .Plz help me

You'll have to remove the the RTC clock battery to reset the BIOS, it's located on your motherboard. It's usually a coin-sized metallic thingy placed in a holder.

Unplug the power cord, remove the battery and push the frontside power button a couple of times to bleed it, then leave it for 5 minutes. Then replug it and start it up without the battery and check that it's reset (i.e. you should now be able to enter the BIOS hassle free).
If it's not the case, reboot the computer and repeat.

Turn it off and unplug it again and put the RTC battery back in place, and don't forget to set the time and date since it's now reset.

My dell optiplex GX110 motherboard problem

I would suggest defaulting the bios, either by way of the cmos jumper, or by entering the bios at boot, selecting "load defaults" from the menu at the bottom of the screen, save and exit. If setting the defaults does not fix the onboard IDE then you have a hardware failure. They make IDE adaptors that plug into a PCI slot, that could get you back into operation, but I'm afraid if the IDE has gone on the mobo, what's next? I would be afraid something else will fail.
Maybe you'll get lucky with the defaults.

About password

Hello,

Is the password added in windows or in bios setup?

If password is in windows setup:

You can try this
username:administrator
password:__________, leave it blank and then enter.

if this not successful then microsoft did not provide soltuion for this because it was understood that it is hacking.

You should reinstall again the windows.

If in bios setup:

You can clear bios password by shortening the "clear CMOS" jumper setting in the motherboard.

see instruction of the motherboard manual for clearing CMOS password.

may this help,

melnavz

PS: if this not solve the issue please don't rate me. if it is good solution pls rate me fixya.
