Manual Focus won't work

I bought a Nikon Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED AF-S DX VR lens in June, 2008 and just the other day (Feb 3, 2009) noticed that the manual focus does not work. The lens focuses fine on auto but when I switch it to manual the focusing ring won't move. I noticed that the plastic switch cover for auto/manual and VR on/off seemed loose and the switch for auto/manual didn't seem to move correctly. I dont know if I just need to unscrew the cover or what. I am on vacation in Coasta Rica until Feb10, 2009 and need help fast! Please help me!!!

Which camera are you using? If the body has AF/MF switch, put that also to MF.If this fails to help, take out the lens and try to change it to MF.

My 55-200mm lens won't focus. It goes in and out, repeatedly without focusing. It used to work great. It will not work on auto, as it did before, or manual, or resetting the camera to default settings....

if other auto-focus lenses work, then it is likely that this particular lens has a defect I suggest you send it in to Nikon for servicing

I have a Nikon D3100 and want to buy a zoom lens 70-300.Please help I am confused is a Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G compatible? And is it automatic focus?

That lens will work with the D3100, except for the autofocusing. In order to autofocus with the D3100, you need AF-S lenses, such as the AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED or the
AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR.

Ether The optic sensor is bad, Or the AF Motor is bad. Needs to be service by repair shop, Focus has to be check and Readjusted.

Seems as if you're snapping the shutter before the lens has focused. Have you tried manual focus or single-server auto focus?

Nikkor af-s 18-200 VR not focusing

Please check your focus settings in the camera menu. Play around with the focus point from Single to 11 points. Also, try Auto mode as a quick way to test if the focus is working

Auto focus at full zoom not responding Nikon D80 with 18-200mm VR

Hi - I own this lens and it manually focuses at all focal lengths (hard to see at 18mm unless your subject is extremly close). You may need to get the lens checked. BTW - Mine was set as follows when I checked for you:

D80 was "on"
M/A
VR = Off
Normal (not Active)
