Vizio GV47L not turning on after a pop noise

I have a Vzio GV47L LCD tv. We bought this about 13 months ago. The other day when it was on and working fine a loud pop noise came from the TV and the screen went black. I couldn't turn it off or all controls didn't work. The only way I was able to turn it off was to disconnect the power. I waited a few minutes and plugged it back in. I went to turn it on and it seem to come on as before but atfer the initial click with the touch screen buttons lighting up it locks up and nothing else happens. No control operations at all, just the touch screen buttons lit up and a black screen with no sound. Can anyone help please? I am very mechanically inclined (30yrs German car mecanic) so I'm not afraid to get into this.

Thanks but I found on another post site what the problem was and I performed the fix. It was a blown fuse on the main board(not a removable fuse. soldered in place). It only cost me about 3 bucks and a little time and now it's fixed and running again.

are you talking about the main 8 amp fuse on the power board or the mother board fuses f-1 thru f-4 (where f4) is not showing to be used?

Wow, you described our "just past the warranty period" problem on our Vizio. Unfortunately, we're not a savvy as you, so don't have a clue how to go about getting into the TV and replacing a fuse that's soldered into place.

Vizio has offered NOTHING. Next: on hold with Sears repair, then to a someone who was extremely stupid, thus non-helpful. We'll try again tomorrow. It is beyond frustrating to have spent such money on a TV which, yes, has provided much entertainment... but, a fix should really be easier than this!!!!!!! It really should! Online, Sears can schedule us two weeks from now for a $100.00 look and see what else it would cost to repair.

Check your power board, most likely that's the part that is causing the problem.

SOURCE: Vizio GV47L not turning on after a pop noise

This exact thing happened to me on June 1, 2009. Identical pop, same with the power cord. No operational values. Was the problem the power supply or the inverter, or both/ something else?

the capacitors on the power board would cause the issues you are having. If you look at the capacitors and they look swollen , then they are probably bad.

ANy sign of DC filter caps with open top (may be that was the sound you hear was cap is blowing its tops). You need to do some voltage checking and some visual inspection.

You have to remove the heatsink to see the caps under it.
Post back what you see.

I CAN TURN THE POWER ON. THE SCREEN STAYS BLACK.

This TV has 2 main circuit boards (2 LCD backlight controlers): the Power Supply board may have fried the video board on it's way out ...
You can either arange to have the TV replaced under warenty if not have it serviced. In any case best of luck with Vizio support line.

Everyone bought this TV because it was so cheap... now we find out why: Vizio cuts corners on everything from engineering to support!! All brands are not created equal. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

I had this same problem. Vizio sent someone out to replace the motherboard. It didn't fix the problem. Since it was under warranty, they replaced it with a newer model VU42L. Doesn't have this problem, but it has others.

Vizio GV42L LCD TV screen black when turn TV on first time

If you are using a set top box this might be caused by turnig the box on at the same tie as you turn the tv on or slightly after you turn the tv on.  If you are using compnent or HDMI inputs the set needs to see the signal as it is turned on to know what formt the signal is in.
