I have a linksys wireless network router and I want to connect and old kalatel dvmre to it. I used a cat5 cable to connect it to the router. In the router menu I set the router port range forwarding to start 80 end 80, and gave it an ip address, then enabled it & restarted the router. Then i went into the menu of the dvr and disabled the dhcp setting, disabled the nameserver setting, and set the default gateway and the subnet to match the router. Then i set the dvr ip to the ip address in the router menu. It all should work right?...Well, nope. Can anyone see what I did wrong?
Everything sounds ok. Try to add more port in your port forwarding. Actually, even if you don't forward port 80, by default its already open because that is for internet access. Research more port that your dvmre is using. You may want to isolate the problem by connecting your dvmre directly to the modem and check if it works there. If not, maybe your ISP is blocking some port the your dvmre is using.

After resetting it (pressing that inset button with a paperclip or pencil), try connecting to it with a wire (cat5 network patch cable). Login with the default of no username and "admin" password. If that doesn't work, it hasn't been reset yet (unless the manual tells you otherwise). Make sure the wireless is enabled AND that the SSID is set to broadcast, not remain hidden.
there is nothing issue with the linksys ist chk the ipaddress which u had provided to the modem and router is in same serious for eg: if ur modem is in 192.168.1.1 ten provide ur router ip as 192.168.0.1 and also chk whether the connection type is in PPPoE and also chk whether u r able to browse through modem which is provided by the ISP....
You could simply hardwire your computer directly to your router, unless you want to purchase a Wireless Card or USB. You will still need a computer connected to your Wireless router to act as a terminal to edit and set the settings on the router. Most regular routers use CAT5 (Ethernet) cord to setup their networks, which is what you should use.
Go to your local store and purchase 2 CAT5 Cables to connect one from your modem into your router and one from your router to your PC. Once you have set up your wireless router you can then access your router from anywhere in your house.
Are you on the wireless internet or on the internet through a cat5 cable? If on through the wireless I think its a wouter issue. try upgrading the firmware of your router first. If that doesn't work try using a different router. Also try upgrading your drivers on your computer for however you are connecting to the internet. Either your network card or your wireless card via device manager. One of those solutions should solve the problem.
run the telephone line from your modem into the wall jack. From the modem connect a network cable (cat5) into the back ( via the uplink port) of your linksys router . Your router can now route the IP from the modem.
I have done what you are talking about with making the one router act as a network bridge. It is a pain in the **** to do but with enough time it can be done. The main things you need to do are:
Configure the 2nd router as a bridge/access point.
Disable DHCP on that router and give it a static IP address on the same subnet as your main router.
Use the same exact wireless encryption for both routers. I believe I used WPA2 and set the passwords for both to be the same key.
Pray.
LOL. It is a pretty involved project and took me a little bit. The only reason I did this in the first place was I promised my gf that I wouldn't spend 100$ to get my XBOX360 online and since I had a spare wireless laying around I decided to see if it could be done. I'll see if I can dig up a few sites I visited that helped me along the way. Good luck!
I may be able to help with this...but I need a detailed description of how you have things connected between the XP desktop, the cable, modem, the Linksys router, and the laptop. Also, is the Linksys router new?
Typically, the wan port on the wireless router connects directly to the cable modem with a cat5 network cable....then the desktop pc connects to the router...on port 1 for example...with a similar cable. Once the wireless router is set up properly, the laptop should then be able to connect using wireless.
you have not given enough information to solve this problem.. how are you connecting the router ?? usb cat5, do you have it on network ??? u need to supply more information
Thanks. I appreciate your assistance. I opened up a range of ports instead of just one, that must have done it.
