Motorola VIP1216 DVR and Sony VRD-MC5 Connections for Recording?

I just bought the Sony VRD-MC5 dvd recorder and hooked it up to the DVR (Motorola VIP1216). I've tried to use the existing settings from my old Sony VRD-VC20 (that thing was extemely temperamental...).

I read through the manuals for both Sony and Motorola. Sony "claims" that I can record from a DVR but I keep getting the "waiting for signal" in the little window of the dvd recorder. I CAN record "live" television but I CANNOT record anything previously recorded in the DVR.

Also tried about every setting possible: S-Video, S-Video with Audio, Audio and Video only, and keep getting the "waiting for signal" information.

Am hoping someone else has encountered the same problem. Thanks for your help! Best...

My Sony VRD-MC5 will not record from anything, not my DVR, not my VHS tape player. When I start the VHS player I see it play in the MC5 monitor screen but when I hit RECORD it says WAITING INPUT SIGNAL.

I have the same problem currently. I have successfully recorded to the Sony CM5 in the past from my DVR, but no longer can. I have Comcast and wonder if they have changed the DVR firmware and blocked output. Also some broadcasts have something in the signal to stop recording. I got half of my program done, and can't record the rest on DVD. I will try to DVR local news, then record to the Sony, to see if it's a signal issue or something with the Sony. I haven't tried to record from a VCR.

I can record the local news on my Sony MC5, but I can no longer record videos as I once did. All I get on the display is "Waiting for signal," which lasts for half an hour. I did everything recommended on the manual with no success.

"Invalid Video Found" HDR-CX7 and VRD-MC5 DVD Recorder

The same happend to me. The camera contains informations of videofiles, which are no more present on the camera (were deleted from a computer). You are not able to record in full disk mode, or any other mode, which includes these videos. These missing files can be easily recognised, as the camcorder is not able to play them. Try to get rid of these "files", or ommit them from the recording list.

With sony dvdirect vrd-mc5, can I burn pictures from my computer

Yes and no... you can not hook it up directly to your computer and burn copies of pix. You can however transfer your pictures to a memory card (SD, MS or CF) and then put that in the VRD-MC5 and burn your pix.

Hope this helps!
