If this isn't a bios password then you press the F11 key at start-up and you should be presented with the Gateway System Recovery option. That will allow you to restore your computer to it's originally installed state.


If it is a bios password...

if you are able to open the pc open it. Remove the cmos battery and turn on the pc and again turn of the pc and install the battery again. if it doesnt work try to locate the cmos jumper on the mother board and clear the bios

You should remove the BIOS battery inside of the machine and also remove the power and wait for a 15 min.
Then put the battery in it's place and turn your machine on.

When you remove the BIOS battery, the settings of Bios will set in Default mode so the boot password and Bios Password will be removed.

Enter the bios and choose restore defaults.

Anything you have should fit in there, you will have to upgrade the operating system, but the hard drive shouldn't be a problem so long as the computer is new enough to auto configure the hard drive.

the CD drive jumper setting might be the same as the hard drive. they both might be set as master. check that first. if that is correct go into your bios settings and set that back to factory defaults.

If the operating system is Windows XP or 2000, then restart the computer, press F8 before the loading screen (after BIOS) and select Safe Mode. Then login to the administrator's account. Click 'Start', and then 'Run'. Type "control userpasswords2" without quotes and press enter. Find your account on the list, click reset password, enter a new password, shutdown and switch back on.

Hi!! Usually GATEWAY passwords are storedin eeprom memories that has to be read or writen to remove / bypass the BIOS password!!! Password generate a hash code that will appear after 3 wrong password attempts and it has a 5 digit decimal format "xxxxx" You can get the hash code by pressing F2 or F10 when you turn on the laptop to enter Bios and then when password prompt appears hit F12 to get the hash code. I got My Gateway Bios password Unlocked at http://www.laptoprebirth.com They can calculate a master password with the hash code. Hope it helps
