Unable to connect to samsung tv as monitor for hp laptop

the PC must be put into external VGA mode.
fn +F4, (read your manual on HP PC first? laptop , and unstated laptop, just HP, is not a laptop model.
then connect the laptop to any monitor made, with VGA>

1: yes, then its not the PC side. (assumes resolution is legit to TV )
2 no, then is PC issue. (or cable bad)

vga pin 10 is ground, there is no need to short ground to ground.
if the cable is bad it will fail test 2 above too.
do not short VGA pins, or you will blow to H3LL the RGB drivers.
or the sync drivers. never short things you don't understand , ok>

the TV grayed out, id guess, means, no sync from PC.
both sync pins dead, (on PCs monitors it shows, NO SIG or NO SYNC or out of rage or shows going to sleep.
that brings up the ugly specter of sleep, make sure the laptop never goes to sleep, use presentation mode.

CP, go to control panel w10
click power
click advanced,
turn off sleep and hibernate, and now you can run a projector
or TV endlessly.

If your laptop screen is cracked or broken.... its either you buy a new screen and replace it because its not repairable..... or you use an external monitor that is if you have one, and connect the VGA cable to your laptop.............

Find out if the problem is the graphics chipset, or the LCD screen.

Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, plug a VGA monitor into the VGA port on the Pavilion dv2000 series of Notebook PC.

1) The VGA port is on the back of the laptop. Looking at the back of the laptop, it is the second port from the Left.

The VGA monitor can be a CRT, (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor with a VGA cable.

The VGA monitor will now just be referred to as External Monitor.

Monitor plugged into the laptop, turn the monitor on. Wait a few minutes if it is a CRT monitor.
Turn the laptop on.

The external monitor should automatically show the graphics of the laptop.

If not press, and hold down on the Fn key, (Bottom row of Keyboard, second key from the Left. The Windows key is to the right of it ), AND at the same time tap once on the F4 key.

If graphics do Not show up on the external monitor, press, and hold down on the Fn key, and tap the F4 key once more.

[ Your laptop has at least three functions for this Hotkey. (F4)
{Also known as Display Toggle-Over key}

1) Laptop internal display Only.

2) Laptop internal display, and external display. (In this case, a monitor. A Projector can be connected here also)

3) External (VGA) monitor Only ]


A) Does the external monitor have this line going through it also?
Yes? Problem is with graphics chipset.

B) No? Problem is with screen Inverter, or LCD screen.

Primer:
An LCD screen cannot produce light by itself. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

A screen Inverter is a small circuit board that converts the electricity from the laptop, for the Backlight, and LCD screen.
(Too broad a statement. There are some laptops that their LCD screen, does not receive power through the Inverter. Their power is derived from the Video Cable only )

90 PERCENT of the time the fault is the Inverter

A1) Without a sensitive multimeter, (Read expensive), you do not have a way to test the Inverter.
IMHO I would replace the screen Inverter, and see if this repairs the problem.

If it does not, then an LCD screen replacement is next.

B1) If the line is on the external monitor, you have a graphics chipset problem.

With most laptops a motherboard replacement is the easiest option, however it is the MOST expensive option.

It has been found that the HP Pavilion dv2000, dv6000, and dv9000 series of Notebook PC's, have a graphics chipset problem.

It isn't the graphics chipset, per se, it is the mounting of the graphics chipset to the motherboard, AND the inefficient cooling for the graphics chipset.

I do know that it uses Intel GMA 950 for graphics, which is usually paired up with one of Intel's Core2 mobile chipsets,

The graphics chipset is mounted to the motherboard with a BGA surface mount.
Ball Grid Array.

To explain a BGA surface mount, let me compare it to the Intel Pentium 4 processors, that used a Socket 478 processor socket.

The bottom of the Processor has contact pins. 478 of them.
The Socket 478 processor socket has 478 socket holes.

With a BGA surface mount, there are no contact pins, and no socket holes.

Solder Balls on the bottom of the graphics chipset, take the place of the contact pins.
Copper Pads on the motherboard take the place of the socket holes.

When installed by the factory, the graphics chipset is set into place on the motherboard, so that the Solder Balls are lined up with the Copper Pads.
The chipset is heated to a specific temperature, for a specified length, and the Solder Balls melt.

The solders the chipset to the Copper Pads. Solders it to the motherboard.
IF, the graphics chipset repeatedly overheats, the solder connections are partially melted, and this makes a bad contact. (Contacts)

Hello,

the problem is either from your screen bulb, screen inverter or the screen it self. One of these is the cause of the problem. You need identify exactly where the fault is coming from so that you can go for replacement of the bad part.

If you are not a tech, then I would advice that you take it to a tech man to help you figure out what is faulty so that necessary replacement can be done.

test it with an external monitor, if that works fine then check the connection on the LCD cable on the laptop and behind the LCD screen.

you should be configure the display option , as extended monitor (2nd) output ,

If you get your wallpaper to show on your TV, then you should be almost there.

• Try to right-click somewhere in the desktop, choose "Properties" and go to the Settings tab. (Now you should be able to see both monitors.)
• Click on the "Identify" tab to see which one is your TV.
• See if "Extend my Windows Desktop onto this monitor" is checked.
• Try to find a resolution that works with your TV by changing the values for the screen resolution.
