Projection tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around video.

Pic of a set that needs the fluid changed. Notice how dull the colors are and how white the screen looks. The screen may also look red, orange, dull, etc.

Red tint on the screen an picture

Make sure the signal cable for the input you are using is tight. Possibly try a different cable. Especially if you are using the Red Green Blue component cables. Make sure the issue is across all inputs. If so, try adjusting settings for tint. if that doesn't help you may need to replace the TV.

Red tint while using component cables

Disconnect component cable while observing screen, just to make sure that is your problem. If it is and you already substituted the dvd player and it still happens,, try replacing the cable, it may be defective. If it still happens there may be some kind of a processing defect with the component input of your tv, why not just return to RCA's

There green tint in my picture on all my connections on vizio 47

Try shielded video cables and make sure you have your cables hooked up correctly. Sometimes you can conect them wrong, specially the red one. If you are using componet in on your tv, make sure the red one is not connected to your audio. The green tint is because you are missing red in your picture.

Picture settings

Colorimetre HCFR software
AVC HD 709 calibration disk
Spyder2 colorimeter (I know most prefer the Eye-One meters, but the Spyder2 was available from my job at no cost)

Here are the settings:

PS3 Blu-Ray player

Output Format (HDMI): Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr (important!!! NOT RGB output)
BD 1080p 24hz Output (HDMI): On (this TV can reproduce video at 48hz for accurate 2:2 pulldown)
Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super White (HDMI): On (not sure if this matters)

Take time to get used to the settings, you may think the screen looks dull at first. The truth is most people have way too much contrast on their TVs.
These settings will also work for Cable or Dish hookups, in which case you may change the Noise Reduction option to Medium to reduce signal noise.
