Clean off all the feed rollers with a soft cloth dampened with alcohol. They probably are slipping because of paper dust.

Maybe, try to 'align' the heads so that there won't be a shadow.

the printer not communicating with computer

It seems to be an issue with the Print Spooler Service. Either the service is stopped or not started correctly. Try stopping and restarting the printer spooler services on your computer. For tips on how to restart the Print Spooler service, use the link: http://www.ehow.com/how_2319117_restart-print-spooler-xp.html. Now Reboot your system and try deleting the print queue. It should work fine now.

In Word, click file/print (not the quick print icon) and in the printer name window make sure that your printer is selected

Go to printers from control panel and check if it appears online. If it doesn't, right click it and set it online.
