Try pressing Fn+F8 to activate/deactivate touch Pad.

Make a backup off all your information and reinstall this laptop to the factory recovery state.

SOURCE: my mousepad won't work on

Check for dirt under the keys. See if you can blow under key and turn the laptop on it's side while you're doing it so anything under it can fall away.

check on the device manager about the driver status, if its there, then its the fault of device better consult gateway

SOURCE: IBM thinkpad problem. Mousepad isnt

re-installing the mouse/trackpoint driver then restarting the laptop usually soles this issue.
