Status light to repeat blinking 2 times 0.5 second of intervall and off 2.5 second of interval
SOURCE: HELP! I changed the bulb already. My NEC VT 470
Sounds like you lamp ballast has gone bad. I good way to verify this is, when you press power on the projector look inside the lens. If you see a small amount of light, then the ballast is good, and the lamp is bad. If there is no light then chances are the ballast is bad.

If it is a lamp error try this:
When the lamp exceeds 2100 hoursof service, the projector cannot turn on and the manu is not displayed. Do the following:
For VT670/VT470 Press the help button on the remote control for a minimum of ten seconds.
For VT570/VT47 Press and hold the power and the exit buttons on the remote control simultaneously for a minimum of ten seconds. When the lamp time clock is reset to zero, the lamp indicator goes out. Hope this helps! :]

Replacing the lamp with an old one was helpful for me. Good news: the projector itself not faulty. Bad news: I have two projectors with the same issue at the same time (the lamps were replaced also at the same time) after only 400 hours of running.
The 4Ā½
minute interval can be changed to 1Ā½, 2Ā½ or 3Ā½ minutes as follows:
Press and hold the Lock button until the light blinks (about 10
seconds). A single blink indicates the the time is reset to 1Ā½
minutes. Repeat the procedure and the light will blink twice,
resetting the timer to 2Ā½ minutes. Repeat again for a 3Ā½ minute
interval, etc., up to a maximum of 4 blinks and 4Ā½ minutes.
