I get a message "oL" & the clothes are not spinning

The washer is only about 2 yrs old! I tried putting less clothes but it still says "oL" which I assume means overload. The fabric softener doesn't go into the machine either.

OL error means the Motor Controller has sensed an Overload.

The oL code means the motor control board is struggling to power the motor up. If it recurs after removing some clothes - usually this means a new motor control.... or worse - a new bearing.

If it were a problem with the tub floating up, the unit would spin instead of nutate.

Bearing failure in this machine is very common.

I suspect the drive shaft and bearing are the problem. The bearing and shaft are part of the outer tub.

The new outer tub with bearing W10128830 cost approximately $197 dollars.

If you can get access to the shaft it may be an Emory cloth will help smooth things down so that you no longer get the OL code.

This is an ambitious do-it-yourself project... as most appliance repairmen don't understand how this machine operates.

Whirlpool Cabrio WTW6700TW1 skips wash cycle and stops after 14 minutes to oL

oL is an Overload error. Try running a cycle empty.

If oL (overloaded) appears in display, the load too large. If an overload is detected, the washer will drain any water and detergent in the washer. Remove several items and add HE detergent. Close lid and press START/PAUSE.

Washer stops and shows oL over load

The "oL" error code in the Cabrio and Bravo washers means the motor is sensing an overload ("oL") condition. While this could indicate a problem with the motor, it usually doesn't. Most of the time, you'll see this error code when one of two things is going on:

1) There's a piece of clothing stuck between the inner basket and outer tub.

2) The tub is not floating freely, usually because it's seized to the drive shaft by rust and crudus; FYI: this condition is almost always caused by using non-HE detergent in this washer. Also, be aware that, if this is the case, it can be very difficult to remove the basket from a badly corroded drive shaft, could even be a two-man job.

Here is a video to help you get into the machine.

Rattles like rocks in it when going to spin cycle! Less than 2 yrs. old

Your load is uneven, try spreading the load evenly before spin cycle.

Keep getting the overload message "OL"

Try unplugging for 12 hrs before reconnecting
If the problem continues then the controler board is damaged and will need to be replaced.

Hotpoint WMA35

Remove lower rear cover of washer, remove belt, undo 2 screws securing motor, remove motor wiring plug,, lever back motor and remove motor.

Remove carbon brushes at end of motor, and check for wear, if less than 8-10mm long, then replace them.
Clean armature with emery cloth or sandpaper before fitting new brushes, if it still does not work then the motor is probably faulty.
Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.

"OL" error message

I believe that I had this same problem. The machine was skipping the wash cycle. After the water level rose to where you would expect the machine to go into an agitation cycle to wash clothes; it would start a spin cycle and drain the water. In the process of spinning it would stop to display the OL message over and over again as quick as you redistribute the load.

I found the problem to be clothes that got stuck underneath the impeller (round thing at the bottom center of the basket). Somehow I also had clothes get pulled down and got stuck underneath the basket next to the lint filter, these items were shredded to the point that they probably were not causing any issues, none the less they should not have been in there. Even though it was not the problem, I went ahead and took out and cleaned the lint filter since it was within reach.

This machine works a bit different then other machines. The agitation cycle is dependent upon the basket floating up and disengaging from the drive shaft. I guess the clothes that got stuck beneath the impeller did not allow the basket to float high enough to disengage from the drive shaft. Because the basket was still engaged to the drive shaft the drive motor would spin the basket and start a drain cycle rather agitate the load to wash it. The imbalance of the basket caused by the clothes stuck underneath the impeller kicked of the OL error since the basket was spinning at an unacceptable angle. I am not a repair dude but based on my observation of what I did to fix the problem this explanation works for me.

I've attached some pages of a repair manual that I found on-line to illustrate the areas that I am referring to.
