You need to go into the setup menu and set the current date and time. It's just telling you it hasn't had its internal clock set (or re-set) if it has lost its clock settings.

The clock isn't set OR it's been a while since you used the cmaer OR you let it sit on low charged/dead battery for too long. Either way, update the date and time and it should go away.

SOURCE: What's the blinking red clock on the screen

This indicates that the internal time / date / time zone may not be correct. This can happen when the battery has run down or was changed. Simply go into the menu to adjust the time. If you need additional or specific help with this, please include the model of your particular Nikon camera.

I hope this helps and good luck! Please rate my reply - thanks.

I JUST PURCHASED A COOLPIX L810. THERE IS RED BLINKING CLOCK LIKE FIGURE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SCREEN. I CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT IT IS AND HOW TO MAKE IT GO AWAY. HELP

It's telling you that the clock hasn't been set. The "Time zone and date" command is in the Setup menu. For more details see page 88 of this manual.

Red blinking sign

No, they're not connected.

Go into the setup menu and set the date and time. This will get rid of the blinking red clock.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use iPhoto or Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

Blinking red timer light

The blinking red timer means that the date isn't set on your camera. Go to the set up screen and set the date. I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to take pictures, though...
