Keyboard and mouse not working on Sony viao with Windows 8

I would replace mouse and I would replace keyboard, to ensure that they are compatible. I would buy a combo kit on sale. In my onion a $100 mouse does not any better that a $10.00 mouse.

Wireless mouse and keyboard are supposed to work on chromebook. It is supposed to work just by inserting USB dongel in port. If won't work, test it on a Windows or Mac computer. Wireless mouse and keyboard are supposed to work on chromebook, see customers report at amazon

But, if works on Windows, it simply won't work for chromebook. No way!

Check Sony website for a driver or utility for the keyboard.

Have you checked the batteries inside the mouse? It's been 10+ years since I seen a OS not auto recognize the mouse. Also is the receiver part of the wireless mouse/keyboard plugged into the PC?

I would suggest you to follow the methods given below. Before we proceed, please answer the question given below.

1)What is the program that you were trying to run?
I would suggest you to follow the methods given below and check if it helps.
Method 1: Run the Hardware troubleshooter and check.
Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:
a) Press Windows key + C on your keyboard to show the Charms bar.
b) Type Troubleshooting and click Troubleshooting under Settings.
c) Now type Hardware Troubleshooter in the search option.
d) Click on Hardware troubleshooter to run the troubleshooter.
Also try updating the drivers for Keyboard and touchpad.

Method 2: Update drivers for Keyboard and touchpad.
a)Press Windows Key + R, type devmgmt.msc.
b)Right click on Keyboard.
c)Click on properties, click on Driver tab.
d)Click Update Drivers button.
e)Click on OK button.
Similarly follow the steps to update the touchpad.

Suddenly you installed or upgraded Windows 8. That's your problem

Windows is not detecting the dvd drive, try to update the drivers for the dvd drive.

If you have a wired mouse you can try to see if that works properly. If its a bluetooth connection you need to make sure its paired with the PC. You can access the settings by going through the control panel and then mouse. Make sure the mouse shows up in the settings, if not you can try to detect new hardware or new mouse.
If it is showing up in the mouse settings, restart the PC and make sure the mouse is on when the PC boots up.
