Check and replace the back-light inverter baord.

I had the same thing just happen and I used the following instructions from the Vizio Website for "humming sound" on tv and it worked. My sound is now working!!!!
1- Power off TV
2- Unplug TV from outlet
3- Press and hold in the power button on the TV for 30 seconds (while it is unplugged from the wall)
4- Release the power button
5- Plug in the TV into a different outlet
6- Power the TV back on.
Reset the TV settings.

check your power board, most likely that's the part that is causing the problem.
This is called the pop of death! If you call vizio they will ask you if you heard a pop, this is a common issue and unless your under warrenty your looking at 916$ to fix it. (assuming you have no sound! If you do its 430$ plus tax for parts and repair. You can buy a used one on ebay for that price!

Call vizio if you have had this system for under a yr the will fix it free!
As for me my 50 and 42 inch had this issue and well I am out of warrenty.. I hate vizio lol!

Just to add to the above post it can also be popped Ceramic fuses. Its worth a try. In most sets I fixed there are about 6 of them and cost you about 10$. Check the specs on the fuses and get the same ones. Pop the old ones out and the new ones in and see if it works.. If it doesn't you have to get a new PS board as WeListen2You has suggested.

may be a mainboard problem. If you can see the orange light it usualy means that there is power running through the TV... usually inverter boards are a problem when you do not see any backlight at all.
