I really need to take it off so i can get my hands to the cpu so that I can change it. any help given, please contact my email, [email protected]
Don't know what manual you're referring to, but it isn't the HP 630, HP 631, HP 635, and HP 636 Service Manual; from HP Support,
http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02834036/c02834036.pdf
Upper part of the laptop is the Top Cover.
Most of the time referred to as the Palm Rest Cover.
1) Remove the Keyboard
2) Remove the Optical Drive (DVD drive) (IF an option on your laptop)
3) Remove the Power Button Board and cable.
4) Remove the TouchPad Button Board and cable.
5) Remove the Top Cover
A) Close the computer
B) Turn the computer upside down, FRONT towards you.
Now pull this example of the Base Enclosure up in another window,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/646838-001-HP-635-BASE-ENCLOSURE-WITH-HDMI-/130659842589?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e6beefa1d
Put your mouse cursor in the middle of the photo, and use the Zoom In feature. (Put mouse cursor in middle, slowly move mouse around)
1) Looking at the FRONT edge, see the SIX screws that need to be removed?
2) See the ONE screw on the Left side, and Right side; that needs to be removed?
3) ONE screw to remove from EACH corner on the REAR side.
4) Battery Compartment / Rear side;
There are FOUR screws to remove that are along the Rear side of the Battery Compartment, and DOWN in the Battery Compartment.
4) Battery Compartment / Front side;
There are THREE screws to remove that are along the Front side of the Battery Compartment, and DOWN in the Battery Compartment.
5) DOWN in the Harddrive Bay Compartment there are FOUR screws to remove.
TWO on the Right side, TWO on the Left side.
IF I count correctly there are 21 screws to remove from the Bottom.
(I ran out of toes and fingers)
6) Turn the computer back over to it's normal position.
Open the laptop.
Grab the Jaws of Life and....................
Just wanted to see if you were following along.............
The rectangular area under where the Keyboard was, and has multi ventilation holes in it, is the Static Shield.
To the Upper Left corner is the Power Button Board cable, that needs to be disconnected.
To the Middle/Front is the TouchPad Button Board cable that needs to be disconnected.
Looking to the upper right there is a hole, and a screw that needs to be removed.
More detail;
Looking at the ventilation holes going across as rows.
Come down to the 3rd and 4th row of ventilation holes.
Come OVER from the Right side SIX ventilation holes.
That hole, that screw; needs to be removed.
IF it still uses this style of fastening;
The Top Cover has TABS going around the exterior perimeter, of the inside edges.
These Tabs snap into matching LATCHES in the Base Enclosure.
(Bottom Cover)
I use a thick stiff guitar pick to start popping the covers loose from each other. (Top Cover from Base Enclosure)
I would ease the pick in the parting line of Top Cover, to Base Enclosure, towards the Rear/Right side.
You just want to ease the pick in, so you can start to get your fingertips in.
Can't get the pick in? Move over. You are at a Tab/Latch.
Once you get the Top Cover to start to separate, use your fingertips, and move along towards the Front.
Go around the Front popping the Tabs/Latches loose.
By the time you get halfway around the Left side, the Top Cover may pop off.
I state MAY, because I have had some I had to fight all the way.
(Pop EVERY Tab/Latch loose)
I hope you are wearing an ESD wrist strap, and have it's alligator clip attached to a good ground source.
IF not, open the backdoor, and throw your laptop out.
(Unless you just want to use it as a doorstop)
Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit), the delicate hardware components inside a computer.
An ESD wrist strap, and connected to a good ground source, will keep your laptop safe from Static. (From you)
The CPU (Processor) is the most susceptible hardware component to Static shock.
You know the above? Good. I also posted for people who read this solution in the future.
Out of curiosity what CPU are you going to install?

[Memory Module/Wireless Module Compartment Panel is removed, then there is a screw to remove down in the compartment, that is for the DVD drive.
Remove screw to slide DVD drive out of laptop.
Can't get a hold of DVD drive? Tap the tray release button, ease the tray all the way out. Gently pull on tray until DVD drive comes out enough, that you can grab it ]
I'm installing, AMD Phenom II Mobile N-660 3.0GHz Dual-Core, to cover my older 1.65GHz amd e-450. And I didnt actually found the part as what do i do after removing keyboard, i have removd, ODD, HDD, WLAN, and disconnected all cables. And no i also other problem, I added 2GB more RAM to my laptop, but i still have same amount RAM for use
I think you are doing a Commendable job with the English language, sir. I apologize that English is all that I am fluent in. However I cannot understand all of your last statements. Let's start with the first one, "I'm installing, AMD Phenom II Mobile N-660 3.0GHz Dual-Core, to cover my older 1.65GHz amd e-450." http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/... Yep. That will work. Second statement, "And I didnt actually found the part as what do i do after removing keyboard, i have removd, ODD, HDD, WLAN, and disconnected all cables." Unclear here. Ah, DING! I FORGOT to include the SERVICE MANUAL. Sorry about that. Kinda' hectic around here,http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/Tec... This HP Support page should open for you, with the bold black subheading at the Top; Service and maintenance information. Click on the file name under it; HP 630, HP 631, HP 635, and HP 636 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide. That is the Service Manual. The last statement I am unclear of, "And no i also other problem, I added 2GB more RAM to my laptop, but i still have same amount RAM for use."
With part "And I didnt actually found the part as what do i do after removing keyboard, i have removd, ODD, HDD, WLAN, and disconnected all cables." I was referencing to what joecoolvette already posted for this topic.
Before I go further wHeRe are my manners? Thank you for the rating! Moving on..........Ignore if you are aware. The Service Manual is in PDF file form. The computer you're using has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files. After you click on the file name, (HP 630, HP 631, HP 635,....), it may take up tpo 30 seconds before the first page comes up. After the PDF file (Service Manual) comes up, go to the top/left corner, and click on the icon, Toggle Slider. It nows spreads into two icons, Show Thumbnails, and Show Document Outline. If you click on the Show Document Outline icon; the Bookmarks menu will appear. A) Illustrated Parts Catalog - Page 25. (PDF file page number at Top) Here you can see an exploded drawing of the laptop, plus parts numbers for the various components, and Identification of the various components. Page 64 - Top Cover, deals with replacing it. Shows and tells you how to remove it. Has the component removal procedures in an order, and highlighted in blue. Click on each one, one at a time, and in order. When the component has been removed, go back to Page 64. Remove the next component in the list. Then go back to Page 64, and so on.
You have the ODD, HDD, WLAN Module, and Wireless Antenna cables removed. I also assume by, "........and disconnected all cables.", you are also referring to the TouchPad cable, and Power Button Board cable. Have you removed ALL screws from the bottom? Pages 64, and 65 show them. IN the Static Shield, where the Keyboard was; did you remove that single Philips head screw? Page 66. As I previously stated, the Top Cover may have TABS going around the exterior perimeter of it's inside edges. These Tabs SNAP into matching LATCHES on the Base Enclosure. (Bottom Cover) I'll show you some information about popping that style of covers apart. (I use a thick stiff guitar pick to start. Slide in-between the parting line, where the Top Cover meets the Bottom Cover. Can't get in? Move over. You are at a Tab/Latch. Now I use a Spudger Tool. They're about $3 USD. One example,http://www.ifixit.com/Tools/Spudger/IF14... Info,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnkQNmKau... 4:19 to 4:35.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEpnqhRYG... http://www.insidemylaptop.com/hp-2000-la... Have more questions? I'm right here.
