Kenmore 91223 zig zag stitch is roaming all over the place

Just bought this, used, tried the straight stitch, beautiful, I set everything to zig-zag, and the stitch is roaming around like a drunk on a lawnmower. I dont understand what the problem is. Right after that, it blew a fuse, I still have to replace the fuse. Is the fuse part of the problem? I doubt it, but maybe it was already on its way out....

Your feeddogs are not engaged. There will be a button or lever that controls this. You will just have to find it and flip it. Could be on the ends of machine or the front bottom edge. If I could see a picture of machine I could help

Be sure TOP control shows zig-zag. Flip top right bar from red to black or black to red on side of machine facing you. You can then change the widths by changing the numbers on that same circle control.

SOURCE: zig zag stitches are not holding

When ever a machine is jamming up the bobbin thread, it is a result of your top tension. It is either set to low (under 4), or the thread has come out of the take-up lever. Check your threading, fromt he spool pin, down to 2 and up to 3. Three is the take up lever. From the take-up lever down to 4. Set the thread behind the thread guide and thread the needle form front to back. Low quailtu thread 9dual duty or all purpose) can also create this problem.

thanks,

Bonnie

SOURCE: top thread tension tight

i have started using my machine again (after several years) and am doing patchwork.. all has been fine, and suddenly the bottom thread (bobbin) is looping. i've adjusted the tension nob from 4 (where i had it) to 5...back to 4.. 41/2....3 1/2....5 1/2... on and on and the bottom thread still keeps looping.
i've read and re-read the manual...and the only suggestion it gives is to adjust the tension button.
it's not working...... what else can i try??
thanks

SOURCE: Not feeding.

Check to see if the feed dogs are up, maybe you somehow clicked or switched a button, it happens to me some time when I take the bobbin out and put a new one in. I don't know your machine but some machines have the lever/knob for dropping the feed dogs in a strange location.

SOURCE: Kenmore 1914 Zig Zag needle wont move side to side

I have this machine and love it too. I am glad to see I was passed down a great machine from a great person. I do not have the arm cover to the machine or any cams, extra feet or Manuel. I have made do for many years but would like to know where to get parts.

Cannot keep the needle from zig aging when using zip foot this is bernina 1630. It was working five one day and the next it went to zig zag.

Does it straight stitch with a zig zag foot? Go back into the menu and clear everything then go to straight stitch, then press the little buttons beside the Zig Zag dial to position the needle left or right

My Kenmore 19233 refuses to zig zag stitch past 2mm wide. At 2mm it is a reliable stitch, moving toward 7mm it is a straight stitch with one or two zig zag blips.

Do you have it on zig zag or maybe it is in one of the hem stitches. Make sure you have not selected a special stitch. Sometimes with a small width setting it looks like no zig zag, then when you increase the length you see it is not.

Kenmore 19233 very new. When using the zig zag stitch, only reliable at 2mm or less. Increasing width to 7mm results in a straight stitch with a few zig zag blips.

The hook timing is out. If it's very new I'm assuming it's still under warranty. Take it to the place you purchased for repair.

Trouble sewing lycra fabric using a zig zag stitch

You have the machine set for blind hem stitching. Change the stitch selector to stretch stitch, which is a single, in line stitching zig zag stitch.

Only does zig zag stitches, no straight stitches,

make sure the pattern selector is set for straight stitch first. If it is set correct then the machine may be "stuck" is zig zag mode. May need to be de greased and then re lubricated.

How do I do a stretch stitch?

The bes way to hem a t-shirt on a household machine is to use a double needle, straight stitch. You will see two straight stitches on top and zig zag on the back. Just make sure the zig zag catched the top of the hem.
