Wet steam coming out of iron

The small transfer water-line to the steamer section has closed up. This is due to contamination of salts, accumulated calcium or other debris. Its baked on and not easy to remove. All I can tell you is: always use filtered water or distilled water in the NEW IRON that will replace this one.

There are two cause. One the boiler resistance doesn´t turn of because of snap disc or bimetal thermostat fault or because a coil in the working valve (security valve). But if you can heard a click of opening movement of valve when you push the button it is able to be a thermostat.

Once you have descaled the boiler and refilled your frontpiece of the iron itself (hopefully with distilled water - any supermarket) you press the "reset"/ "restart" button on the back end of the steam generating unit. When the water is hot enough press steam button & turbo button a few times - WARNING: make sure iron is facing downwards and cover ironing board with old rag because initially brown steam splatter will come out on first few steam releases.

Normally when water is put inside steam irons, it get stored in tank then if thermostat knob is set for steam then water moves to bottom heated portion of iron. Water converts to steam as base plate is hot, heated steam comes out through perforated holes. If holes are blocked due to scale formation steam flow is blocked. The descaling has to be done as per instructions given on descaling wax manufacturer. sometimes if water does not enter through a rubber washer that is water tank to heated bottom portion then also steam will not get generated hence no steam. Please check above points and identify the problem.

Sounds like your trigger valve in the iron portion (not the tank) is jammed open. It could be from mineral deposits so maybe try running it with a solution of distilled water and a couple of tablespoons of vinegar in the tank. Wiggle the steam trigger to try to release any scaling that maybe present inside the valve. If your steaming from the iron stops, you've fixed the problem so let the iron cool and rinse the tank using ONLY DISTILLED WATER which anyone knows is the only type of water to be used in ALL appliances. Minerals in regular tap water kill appliances quickly. Never use tap or bottled drinking water even if the directions say it's okay. Iron some old rags or towels with a tank of distilled water to make sure no mineral deposits or staining steam comes out after cleaning.
If this fix doesn't work, you can buy a replacement iron portion online..try 1800Parts.com. It's cheaper than buying a whole new iron but you may need a repairman...I've never tried to fix this portion of my DG5030 iron.

This IS a steam iron? The iron must be hot for the steam to form. If it's not hot enough, the water is leaking thru the steam holes. Also if the channels are calsified (boiler stone has formed into the steam channels) this may happen.

Hi, It is likely you have too much residual water in the iron or have mineral deposits from the tap water you have been using. Rowenta recommends that you use clear filtered drinking or bottled water only. I believe them because the system uses brass & aluminum throughout, so salts or acids would cause corrosion. To clean the system totally, after each ironing session before I put it away, I remove the blue reservoir completely, and run the burst of steam several times until the boiler is empty, and red light indicates it is out of water. I shut the power off and unplug. Wait at least an hour or so, access the boiler tank plug on side & if it is cool to the touch, remove it using a coin (quarter), drain and flush the tank several times with the cleaning tube that came with unit or filtered/drinking bottled water several times over the kitchen sink. Finally, drain all the water completely out of the boiler (I leave the plug & cover off to making sure it is completely dry before putting everything back together, ready for the next time). After several use cycles of the above should clear out the debris. My 1st experience with a used DG980 had exactly the same problem. P.S. before ironing the first article, use several bursts of steam away from the ironing board surface to clear out any standing water that was is in the system. Hope this helps :O)

OK... so I have fixed my problem of NO STEAM, just lots of water coming out of the iron press plate itself... I had already cleaned the boiler, so I tried adding 1/4 tsp - 1/2 tsp bicarbonate soda to the water and flushing it through. From what came out of the iron press plate, I would say the problem was caused by a build up of goop (technical term) inside the iron. Once cleared, the iron is steaming away again. Please note, u will need to have an old towel handy if this is ur problem, 'cos until it starts getting better, there is a fair amount of water coming out of the iron press plate. Just add the bicarb to the water reserve and use the steam buttons to bring the bicarb through. Do not attempt to iron clothing with the bicarb in the water!!! Carolyn ;)
