Gas oven is starting by itself

Twice now we have discovered our gas oven has started the broiler by itself; once in the middle of the night and once during the day. At one point the unit started beeping and SEC was displayed across the front. This oven does not have a self clean option and is just a plain jane. Of course we are worried about a fire so have been unplugging when away from home. Any ideas?

The product listed below is not correct but the correct product was not listed and the program won't let me proceed with out it. It is a Maytag Model MGR4452BDW SN 14601718JR Gas Range

Oven will not reach desired temperature and slight gas smell
Just had same problem it was nice it waited until christmas dinner, all i did to resolve the problem was switch the upper broiler igniter with the lower one for the oven. I tuned on the oven & it fired right up i never use the broiler on my oven so itll buy me some time. So if you can get the broiler to light try that but i did have the same low temp. & the smell of gas. Good Luck

Maytag gas oven quit working
Sounds like the ignitor is bad. They get weak and stop opening the valve completely so it may cause the gas smell.

Oven and Broiler not working
The gas supply valve to the oven/broiler is the likely culprit. It is a separate valve from the stovetop. I've had the same problems and had to replace mine twice now. They are very expensive, (about 100 dollars) considering the cost of the whole stove. It is located
inside the broiler drawer on the very back wall.

Oven bake ignites usually have lifetime 5-7 years. If igniter glows but gas not came in - replace igniter. Same with broil igniter.

If you can smell the gas when you turn on the oven, it may be on a separate igniter that has gone bad. I would check this first. If you are not getting gas to the oven, there is possibly an issue with the supply line.
