When i try to do something with the remote the amp is not reacting. I changed the batteries but nothing changed. The remote will turn the telly on/off but the amp won't do anything. I can still control the amp manually. Hoping the infrared receiver is not kaputt
Does the light blink more than once when you select the 'contol the reciever now' button? I assume you push a button to switch which device the remote will control, and then push another button to astually have the device do something
There is a main power button just for the amp and another power button for the moniter.I tried the remote on a completely different sony amp and it worked for everything. My amp infared is just picking up the signal
just NOT picking up the signal..sorry
The amp is working how it should, it is just not picking up the remote signal. The remote works, i proved it on another amp
I have the same issue with my same receiver/remote. I also just bought a Harmony universal remote that should control the receiver, but it doesn't work as well, even though it controls everything else correctly. I'm about to scrap it and get a new receiver, but wondered if you'd figured anything out.

SOURCE: STR-DH700 won't power up unless I unplug-plug it.
This is a logic problem with the internal microprocessor. A quick experiment: Turn the unit on for about 2 minutes and shut it down. Doe sit power uip in this case? If so, I'd suspect that the heat generated during normal operation is creating an internal problem thaty is preventing the micro from recognizing the "off" condition. The power data line is hung and is not being recognizwed by the micro so any attempt to turn the unit on will fail. The unplug/re-plug essentially clears or resets the unit.
If the unit is new, return it for warranty repair. It will be important to describe when the unit fails however. Try to see how long it must remain on for the problem to occur.
Update this with your results if the unit is not under warranty and we'll try to narrow it down.
Thanks,
Dan
SOURCE: I have a Sony STR-DE435 that won't turn on
Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.
Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.
You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.
If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.
If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'nekkid'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.
Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as another possible root cause for intermittent shutdown.
