Why won't my CX9400F recognize Epson ink cartridges

I bought the CX9400F around July of 08. Initially everything worked as advertised, but then I needed to change empty ink cartridges for new ones, that's when the trouble started. The first set of Epson refills didn't work. I got a message that said ''Cannot recognize ink cartridges.'' After a whole lot of frustration I went back to the Office Depot and bought another set of cartridges that included an extra black ink cartridge. Everything seemed to be fine until the black ran out and once again I'm getting the same message. I do a lot of printing in my real estate office. A printer that won't work is useless to me, any suggestions

Clearly the Epson product is not for me. I'm going back to canon.

    Thank you for your help.

The Epson CX9400F printer seems to require replacement of all the color ink cartridges, even if only the Black is empty.

I print almost exclusively in Black, but with my first change of Black, I was forced to change all the color. At the time I thought Epson did not provide completely filled color ink cartridges.

Just yesterday, I replaced Black and the printer complained it did not recognize the rest of color cartridges. So I replaced all the other color ink cartridges and now it works fine.

You might want to check out www.clickinks.com for cheaper, mail order alternatives which are Epson ink compatible, if you are not in a hurry.

I am disappointed as you are with CX9400F.
It's wasteful to have to toss out unused color cartridges.

However, Epson makes great dedicated printers.
I have an Epson for photo printing and art work, recommended by a professional photographer, and it works great.

Personally, I see the CX9400F as a machine Epson quickly put together to have a foot in the all-in-one niche. The user interface is not well designed, either; not the normal Epson level of excellence. Too bad.

Epson 1400 not recognizing an epson ink cartridge

not necessarily faulty cartridge - had same problem went thru various cartridges some worked some didn't - in fact they weren't epson - so bought epson from office depot and that would not work, so not an issue of ink dried up - if yr printer is fairly old may be easier just to replace rather than waste time and money on trying to figure out problem

Cant get my ink cartridges to work

This model Epson printer may only let you use genuine Canon/Epson printer cartridges. If you try to refill these ink cartridges it will not work because the Epson cartridges have an embedded chip in the cartridge that detects the empty cartridge even though it has been refilled.

Epson workforce 520 won't recognise ink cartidges

When replacing ink on the Epson Workforce 520, Ensure the cartridges have the correct/same number of gold contacts. Ive seen them with 7 and 9 gold square contacts and they were otherwise identical, and the ones with 9 contacts threw an "cartridge not recognized" error on the printer's dispay.

Epson wont recognize black refill cartridge.

I'm assuming that you are probably using Non-Epson Ink Cartridges, because those are what normally cause that problem, with a printer not recognizing an installed ink cartridge. Unfortunately, there is no way to make your Epson Printer use or accept that Non-Epson Ink Cartridge, if it cannot actually recognize it. Its even possible that some Generic or Third-Party brands, may not always be recognized by the newer models of Epson Printers, because of the inexpensive [cheap] and or incompatable Electrical Chips that are mounted on the actual ink cartridge. Sometimes you will even get Error Messages up on your Monitors screen, telling you that you are actually using a Non-Epson Ink Cartridge, or that your printer cannot recognize the cartridge that you installed. Sometimes the Ink Level Indicator, on your Status Monitor, will not show an actual ink level, but may indicate a cartridge error or problem instead. Not all Generic or Third-Party ink & ink cartridges are made the same and none of them actually contain the right formulation of ink, for the Epson Printers [formula is patented by Epson Company]. Some are probably close and seem to be better than others, but some simply can clog-up or even damage the Printhead Assemblies on Epson Printers, or simply won't be accepted at all. Epson Ink Jet Printers are one of the few printers on the market that seem to have so many problems with non-manufactors inks, especially the newer models made in the last couple of years. Its because the Epson Printers use a completely different printhead inking system than most other brands of printers. Most, if not all of the other manufactors, use thermal or bubble jetprint heads and because the other brands use a totally different system, they don't seem to have as many problems using refilled inks or non-manufactor's ink cartridges. Printer manufacters do not make available their ink formulation and in most cases, the formulation is patented. Any difference in the ink formulation can actually cause clogging in the small printhead nozzles or damage other critical components. One individual printhead nozzle is so tiny, that it will not accept a human hair, so you can see why they can get clogged so easily, or even why the nozzles can be so easily damaged...Even if you were actually using a New-Epson Ink Cartridge, its always possible that you got a bad cartridge. At this point, the only thing I can suggest is that you try a different New-Epson Ink Cartridge, or at the very least, a different brand of Non-Epson Ink Cartridges and see if that helps.

Epson Stylus NX415 does not recognize ink cartridges. Cartridges are Epson 88's. Worked for awhile, and then stopped recognizing them. Tried powering down the printer, cleaning the cartridges, turning...

Epson Printers are sensitive in terms of Ink Cartridges.. The latest Epson Printers does not have ink reseter.. Ink reseter are already built-in on the ink cartridges.. The problem on this printer is when you have a cartridge on your printer, let say, 30% of the ink level, even though your ink is new, and you change it without using the right ink replacement method, it will recognize your ink as a 30% ink level. When your ink level drops to 0%, but you have remaining 70% of the ink, it does not recognize it anymore. The chip on the ink cartridge is already registered as an empty cartridge.

The printer won't recognise the printer cartridges. I tried replacing older cartridges with new ones and even this doesn't work. They are genuine epson cartridges and the same ones I have always bought.

Check chip connnector at ink tank and at head carriage. It's may be dirty. Check status monitor? what ink tank not recognized. Press ink light (1-4 times) depends on number ink tank not recognized, press 1 time again, carriage will move co replacement position, unplug and plug again all ink tank, press ink light 1 more.

New out of box!!

If you already have tried reseating all of the inks and and inks are still not recognized, Please contact Epson tech support for a replacement ink or if they find out after some diagnostics that it is the printer that is having an issue they would be replacing your printer.
