I just got a new tv, and have hooked it up to my Directv receiver per their phone helpdesk person's instructions. I can't get the channels to auto-program on the tv - it keeps telling me there's no signal. The Directv help guy hung up before it finished trying to auto-set the channels, but said if it didn't work, to just call back. Since he couldn't tell me properly to begin with, I don't want to call them again. Can you help? Thanks!

I have the same problem. RCA L32HD31 TV.
When I spoke with Directv technical support, he indicated my Directv remote was to old to program to my new TV and I needed to buy a new one. However, being the senior that I am I will continue to use both the TV remote to turn-on/off, adjust volume, mute and other TV features. I can still use old remote to display favorites and the guide. I can't aford a new remote. It sounds like the new Directv remotes are a must is you want to use just one remote. Is there a secret way around this issue?
    Thank you.

How are you connecting the receiver to the television? RCA cables? HDMI? Coax cables?

Auto tune only works if you are connecting via coax and plan to use channel 3/4 to view. If you are using either HDMI/Coax/Component/etc, then you would need to use the input button on your television remote (Not the DirecTV remote, the one that came with your television) to toggle through the various inputs until you find the signal from the DirecTV receiver.

How do i hook my direct tv to the philips tv

This is what you'll need to do this:
  • Your DirecTV receiver, DirecTV access card, and your DirecTV satellite dish.

Step 1: You need to write down the serial number that is on your DirecTV access card onto a piece of paper that you will need for future reference. You'll need the number to activate your service with the DirecTV company. Now take your access card and insert it into your box, there is a slot either on the back or front side in which the card with enter.
Step 2: Plug the cable line that is coming from your satellite dish into the "Satellite In" plug on the back of your receiver box.
Step 3: Look for the "Out to TV" port on the back of your receiver, and use the proper cable, which should come with it, to plug it from the receiver into the proper port in the back of your TV.
Step 4: Power up the receiver and your TV (after plugging in the power cable and all) and tune into either channel 3 or 4, depending on where you live.
Step 4.5: You may be prompted to plug in a phone line, in which case you would need to plug in a phone cable into the back of the receiver, but this is only required as a one time thing, you may unplug it after activating your account.
Step 5: Once everything is set up (which it should be at this step), call DirecTV at 1-800-531-5000 to activate your access card, and you will need to use the serial code you copied down from it.
Step 6: After your access card is activated, enjoy watching on DirecTV!

Can I take the access card out of a standard Directv satellite receiver and put it in a new Directv HD DVR (HR20-700) without any problems?

You can do that but it still won't work. You have to make the changes with Direct TV in person for them to "authorize" your new receiver. More is needed than just the card.

Want to run my dtv receiver through new digital converter box.

You will not be able to record local station from a DTV converter connected thru a directv receiver unless there is a a/v input on the directv samsung receiver. Also check the user manual for this receiver if recording from an external source such as a DTV converter box is possible. The answer to seperating the DTV converter box from the directv samsung receiver is possible if your tv has multiple inputs. Try connecting the DTV box to the RF input and the directv samsung box to an a/v input then change inputs using the tv remote. you will need an av cable (yellow/ red/white) for the directv box and a rf jumper cable for the DTV box.

I just had directv hooked up, I have a dvr receiver, I was told I did not have enough hook ups on the back of my tv, so therefore, I went and bought a switch or combiner. Now, how do I need to run the...

Newer directv hd receivers must connect to the av input (yellow, red, white) connections on the back/front/side of your tv. If your tv only has one of these av inputs then you will need an RF modulator for your dvd player. You will connect the (yellow, red, white) connections from the dvd player to the rf modulator and then connect the tv out on the rf modulator to the tv rf jack ( the silver threaded barrel on the back of the tv) Tune your tv to channel 3 to watch a dvd and then back to the av input channel for the directv receiver.

Can I connect 2 TV's to one Directv box

yes you can, by purchasing an analog splitter at a store. HOWEVER, by using such a splitter what is going to happen is what you are viewing on the tv w/ the directv receiver is what you will be watching on the other tv. you cannot use one receiver to watch different programs. have to have 2 receivers, unless you want to watch the same thing as the person in the other room. also where the receiver is, is where you have to change the channel from.

How do I hook up a daewood vcr to a TV through a Direct TV

If you are trying to connect a VCR to your television and still have Directv, this is the way to do it. Disconnect your Directv receiver from your television, Then connect the VCR to the television either through coax or RCA cables. If using the coax cable connect the out to tv on the VCR to the television. If using RCA cables connect the RCA OUT to the television AV1 connection. Once that is done, connect tha Directv receiver to the VCR using either coax or RCA cables. the Directv receiver only has RCA outputs so, if using RCA cables connect to VCR in. Remember that in order to see the Directv the VCR needs to remain on and it must be on the channel line in. If using coax cable connect to the VCR where it says in from antenna. Remember that if using this method your VRC does not have th remain on to view Direct. If you're trying to record Directv, then your VCR need to be on the same channel as the Directv output channel either channel 3 or 4. If trying to record Directv using RCA connections the VCR needs to be on the AV settings. If you have any futher questions please feel free to call me at (361)510-0339

No signal

. I changed from my component video inputs to the ones on the side of the TV and that works. Seems like the high quality video receiver, i.e. the control box, is the problem, per other complaint sites.

Warranty is only for 12 months, otherwise it is an expensive fix.
