Setting places behind the decimal.

Question edited for clarity. It is 'decimal' not 'decibel' which is a measurement of noise levels.

It will show up to 9 decimal places. Page 3 of the manual refers

I have just changed from using a Casio fx-83MS to a fx-83GT Plus. Is there a way of displaying a comma between every third whole number?

I do not think that Casio scientific calculators have the possibility to separate thousands, millions etc. The Sharp have that feature.

On my casio fx-82au plus calculator it won't

The capability of these calculators to handle irrational numbers in radical form is limited to square roots. Roots of index other than 2 are always displayed in their decimal representation.
If the calculator IO mode is set to MathIO, square roots will be displayed with the radical symbol. More complicated expressions with square roots might not be preserved and will be given as decimal numbers.

TI-30XS won't show square roots

You've got two different issues here.

Square root of 39 IS the exact answer, as the result will be a surd (an irrational number with too many - or potentially infinite decimal places).

If you have been asked to round or show your answer to a number of decimal places then you use the answer toggle (the opposing arrows button above enter) to receive an approximation - a rounded answer (6.24 to two d.p. if you were to multiply these together you will see it is close to 39, but not EXACT, because it has been rounded already). You can also press the answer toggle again to see a longer decimal, but again this is rounded and not exact

How do i change the mode on my Casio fx-82au plus calculator?

Press SHIFT [MODE] to bring up the mode screen. Press 8 for NORM, then 2.
Bear in mind that if the magnitude of the number is too large or too small the calculator will switch to scientific notation anyway. For example, if a number has twenty leading zeros then it won't fit on the display unless it displays it as a power of ten to the negative twenty.

Answer only carries out to 4 decimal places

Press the MODE button until the screen shows: [Fix Sci Norm] for the display mode, then press the number corresponding to Norm (ie 3 for Normal) then either 1 or 2. Display mode Norm1 shows numbers that are less than 1 in scientific mode, whereas mode Norm2 retains decimal format where is fits on the display.

How do you change Casio fx-300ES answers in decimal format, without changing Input/Output format, 3 / 4 [SHIFT] = x?, and switching with S<->D.

There are three ways to enforce the changes, and it is quite impressive for this calculator. Yet for you it is not enough. I am sorry but I am not aware of another way.

Maybe, just maybe, if you fixed the number of decimal digits to 0, all your results will be integers, and there won't be any reason to convert any result to a decimal and the problem will be solved.

Hi there, I have a Casio fx-991ES, and my calculator doesn't seem to be converting decimals in surd form... i.e. 0.3354101966 was the last number I typed in that didn't work... That, in surd...

The calculator can't identify that this is a surd unless you input it as a surd, ie as 3/(4*sqrt(5))= when it will then show the equivalent form 3*sqrt(5)/20 (obtained by multiplying top and bottom by sqrt(5)) and you can swap between the two forms using the S<>D button. Even adding the next 4 decimal places (hidden) won't allow the calculator to identify the underlying surd as this is simply too complcated a calculation.

Hello,
To convert from fractions to decimals, and from decimals to fractions use the [S<-->D] key. If you want your decimal results to have a fixed number of decimal places press [SHIFT][SETUP][6:Fix]. Screen shows Fix 0~9. Enter the number of decimal places exemple 3.
Dans ce cas 1/6 is displayes ase 0.167.
Hope it helps.
