I have a RCA HDLP61W151 TV. I am trying to determine where the loud "Fan noise is comoing from. The noise continues after the TV is turned off for about 45 seconds or so. Does noise after the TV is turned off mean it is a bad fan? Or does the color wheel also run for a short time after the TV is turned off. Is there a way to determine if it is the fan vs. the color wheel? Mike

A fan like noise can also be a color wheel which depending on brand and model number (can you confirm brand and model number?) may or may not be sold as a part.
THAT TV HAS WHAT IS CALLED A COLOR WHEEL WHICH SPINS AT VERY HIGH RPMS AND CAN MAKE HIGH PITCHED WHINING/GRINDING NOISES IF A FAN WAS BAD THE TV WOULD SHUTDOWN AND THE SOUND WOULD BE MORE DULL SOUNDING.
No,this tv have a colors wheel,it dead. The tv turn black&white, make loud grinding sound, make loud noises like a motor. All indication the colors wheel is spinning off of it axis motor and not functioning anymore.Hire a tv tech.to replaced the colors wheel, very difficult to replaced, many machanicals parts to take out, before even can see the colors wheel to replaced.
100% sure it high voltage transformer it dead.
The big block of plastic with a red wire with a cap go to ur CRT(ur tv tube). It call the Flyback transformer it dead. That where the noise came from.
The fans in these generaly do not go bad, the part nubmer for the lamp cooling fan is 265943. But my guess is that the color wheel is starting to go out of you light engine. I am not sure if these are still avalable but the part nubmer for it would be 267888. Worst case you could send your engine in for repair engine nubmer should be 265864 or order a repacement try this site. GOOD LUCK http://www.moduslinkptstvboards.com/Default.aspx
If it is a buzzing noise, it is the Ballast for the lamp.
If it is more of a grinding sound, it is the Color Wheel motor.
Does it go away when you turn off the tv? If so, does it stop abruptly or does the sound tend to get softer (winding down noise)
If the noise stops abruptly it is probably the Ballast.
If the noise takes several seconds and seems to get softer until it stops about 30 sec later then it is the color wheel motor.
