Is the brightness problem only when the battery is low?

did you try going into the settings and changing the brightness of the device?

there is a brighness key on your kb
press the fn key on lower left and turn up your bright ness
fn = function press and hold while you press bright ness up

It should be in your settings for the Digital Vibrance.

Try this:
Right click the desktop, left click "personalize" > display settings > Advanced Settings > GeForce 8xxxM GT, >Start the NVIDIA Control Panel, >Adjust desktop color settings> Digital Vibrance. Move it up to your desired level + 10% or so. I hope that helps you out and have a great weekend.

to cheng bright ness toshiba use "fn" key and then use f8 or f7 key

Did you checked the settings in BIOS. I think you should have adjust some settings in BIOS.

Its not a problem, its how it was designed. With the power cord in it will be at full power so it will light brighter, When the power cord is out, it will be less bright as its using power from the battery , it will light dimmer to conserve power.

bright ness buttons are indicted witha sun like mark . they r usaly used with fn keys look for that keys

if you are using S-video cables for your video, try replacing the cable. svideo has 2 lines in it, one for color (chroma) and another for brightness (or black and white-ness (lumina) if one of those little pins is broke, or missing, or the cable is bad, this may be the case.
