The A402 works with MMC and SD cards. Your 4GB card is an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it's electronically incompatible and won't work with the camera. You need to use an SD card, 2GB or smaller.

SOURCE: card error

Its possible the card is corrupt. You can try reformatting it on another device like a card reader on your computer. Also try a a different/new memory card.
Thank you,

SOURCE: Installed a Sandisk 4 GB memory card and camera

The A402 is designed to work with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While SDHC cards will fit into SD devices, they will not work. You'll have to stay with SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Coolpix p1 formatting problem on new memory disk.

There are 3 options, which come up to my mind :

1) Compatibility
The camera is containing a controller, able to communicate with a inserted memory-card. In some cases the size of the memory-card is not supported by this controller.

2) Protective mode
There's a small slide at the edge of this card. Maybe the slide is set to protect the contents of the memory card.
3) Pin-connections
Sometimes, you don't take care enough about the way you insert a memory card into the camera. Everything goes quick... If you inserted the card wrong, the pins at the menory card wont touch the internal pins in the socket of the camera.

4) Fake memory
There are some fake memory cards sold. This means, inside the card is a FLASH-memory chip and a tiny controller-chip. Some Chinese see it as a sport, to use for i.e. a 4 GB memory-card, replacing the outside cover with a text that states 32 GB. And likewise, they have to re-program the controller-chip, to think it has 32 GB FLASH-memory onboard. So, if you insert this card into a PC with Windows, Windows will show this card is 32 GB, while it is actually 4 GB. There are programs to test memory-cards for this type of fraud. However, most of the time, you can figure it out yourself, by checking the price you paid for this memory-card. If the price for this new card was extremely interesting (read : low priced), you probably burned your fingers.

5) Defective memory
The manufacturing process of memory-chips has it flaws. Luckily they use tests to check batches. If there's some malfunctioned detected, they throw it away. Unluckily, there are workers at those factories, who take these (partly) malfunctioning memory-cards back home and sell them at internet. Dealers just think about earning a quick buck and buyers face the results.

It says memory card error.i took out the sd card and it was not locked and it still says memory card locked. i formated the card also and it still says the same thing.

How big is its capacity ? Some device can only support memory card at certain maximum capacity, if you inserted card with higher capacity it wouldn't able to read it and it would say "card error".
Try to insert another card with lower capacity. i.e. if you have got "card error" notification for inserting 4 Gb memory card, try to insert 2 Gb card

Hope this help, and if you think its helpful RATE please.

8g sd card doesnt work on jvc camcorder...it says card error

Each camera have maximum memory card to be readable. If the memory capacity is to high from the limit, the camera will hard to write the data inside the card and said that "card error".
Try to insert memory card with lower capacity (4 or 2 GB) and read the user manual to know optimum memory card for your device.

Hope this help and RATE please !

Memory card error

Hi,

This seems to be a known issue with the Canon camera's to display Memory card error.

Give this a try
1. Remove the card from camera and wait for sometime ( 1-2 minute ) and re-inserting the card.
2. If this does not work, you need a card reader to read/view images on your PC ( since you are not able to access the card in your camera )
3. If you are not able to access/view the images from Card, click on the link below to recover the images from card - Recover images
When you open the webpage, click on the Download Now option to download the software ( it is free )
4. Try this fix to resolve the issue, Sometimes it takes long time for the camera to load the images and it results in memory card error - Click on the link to download the fix - Firmware Update
5. Try using a SD card with less memory like 1 GB card or max 2 GB for better access of card in camera.

Hope this is helpful.

Cannon Powershot A540 SanDisk SDHC 4 gb I insert the card and receive a memory card error. Can't format

Hi,

A 4 gb memory card is beyond the capacity of your Cannon A540. It is too large. I would stick with a 1 gb card in that camera.

Cha flashing when new memory card inserted... have tried several to no avail... please can you help?

CH A error indicates that the camera can not communicate with the memory card. Most often this is caused by formatting a memory card in a computer and then putting it into the camera. (Especially on 4 + gb cards). Solution is 1. Reset the camera - then it should work with cards that it worked with in the past. 2. Take the bad memory card and reformat it in your computer to FAT not FAT 32.

It should now work - although it will show capacity to be only 2 gb...

I believe at that point, if you reformat it in camera it will work at the full 4 gb.

CAMERA READS -CARD ERROR-AFTER INSERTING A NEW MEMORY CARD

First, make sure that the new memory card does not have the protect tab in the lock position. The new card must be unlocked and formatted before your camera will be able to use it. Also, make sure that the size card that you have purchased has not over shot the ability of your camera. I think that a 2 GB card is as large as you can use. Just because the card fits into the slot does not mean that the camera will address it!
